Whether it be a oil or fuel filter, does the fluid enter through the center hole and exit through the outer small holes or vise versa?

Thanks, I thought it was that way.

Except for some Air filters on the big rigs with the big air cleaners on the cab, the air actually enters thru the center of the filter and leaves around the outside of the filter but still in the SS canister to feed the engine.
