I stopped to look at some real estate that was for sale and left the keys in the truck, with my Jack Russell inside. When I returned to the truck, the doors were locked. The dog had stepped on the electric door lock button on the armrest. I had no spare key with me. The property owner gave me a coat hanger but it was impossible to slide it between the window and the weather seal.

Then the little light bulb went off in my head.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif If the dog locked the door, then why not get her to unlock it? I tried to get her to step on the switch again and had several near misses. Finally the property owner came up and I had him look into the truck, over the mirror and that got her to barking vicously. After 3 tries, switching back and forth between doors, she stepped on the switch at the drivers side door and I was waiting on the passenger side with my hand on the handle, when I heard the click and yanked open the door.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Don't leave your keys in your truck if you have kids or animals in there that can hit those switches. Even if you had the door locked and the keys with you, a dog could get excited, and if someone were to approach the truck and unlock it for them, you could be SOL if you had valuables in the cab.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Not sure what the solution is to this problem.

My dog seems to roll down all the windows.

Better yet is when you forget to lock the windows and the dog tries to guillotine himself...

The solution to your problem is to have a extra key cut and hide it under your truck, maybe under the front bumper with a piece of wire in a zip lock bag. We have used his method and it always somehow comes in handy.

I used to wire in a tiny power door unlock swich and hid it in the grille or somewhere else in the truck/car. Only I knew where it was and I could easily reach in around the grille and push the button. I found it really handy when you didn't want to carry you keys in your pocket like at a wedding or something. I haven't bothered with this the last few years because of on-star. I know I always have a way in. I think I might do it again just for old times sake. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Like John R my dog always rolls down all the windows, fortunately with the new window buttons on the 2003's they can't guillotine themselves. I usually leave the 2 front windows down about 1/2 inch for fresh air. My wife and I did accidently locked ourselves out at a rest area, when we stopped to dump the 5er, and as luck would have it. My cell phone had just beeped low battery so I plugged it in, so calling OnStar was out. The closest phone was about 2 miles. Finally a motorhome stopped and let me use his Cell to call OnStar. I now have a Hid-A-Key under the truck.Edited by: BIGMoe

Max sounds like you have another article there for the DIY section. At least telling us the wires we would need to tap into to do it. That would be a sweet thing to have I think. And it would sure beat getting a truck with spy-star in it. Just the other day my friend was over early in the morning with his duramax and his pup did the same thing.. Had to run him home. So he just keeps the fob in his pocket all the time now and leaves the key.

On another side note to spy-star, I was commenting to my brother that on the sopranos tony (mob boss) had an escalade so he better pull the onstar fuses. Then in the episode tonight that was what he said, he disabled it. Ironic I thought.

I will see what i can do about that diy article. Only problem is 01,02s are different then 03's and 04's. I'll see what i can come up with.

I always leave my keys in my truck, most of the time I thro them in the cupholder and then I use the remote key fob to lock the doors as I'm walking away. I keep the remote key fob in my pocket all the time, I dont like keys in my pockets, they poke me where I dont want to be poked.

Now, if I lose the key fob ..... well, I'm glad I have OnStar.

You'd be surprised how useful OnStar can be. Here's my favorite example:

I keep my Fob separate from my keys for that reason, also if I get out to go in a stoe or mini-mart I can lock it and unlock it with the engine running.
