OK, you folks convinced me to endure the pain of finding a dealer who had (and would install) the Astrostart 2205, an di had it installed Friday.
Now have questions:
1) The installer said there is no glow plug hook up because the glow plugs are so fast on the new GM's. It kind of makes sense because when the remote is activated, there is a two or three second delay between when the ignition comes on and the unit actually starts the truck. Any comment?
2) I ride solo a lot. I asked if the remoe could be used to selectively turn on the heated seats - in other words, only the drivers seat, or both seats at my option. The installer said no, it's both or nothing. Again, any comments?
Thanks in advance!

1) he is wrong. When it is cold they still wait. Insist they hook it up. I will send you a pic of where to get the wire if you send me your email address.
2) he is correct, the astro start module will turn on both or nothing. I see nothing wrong with the passenger seat being on with no one in it.

If you have read any of the Astrostart threads you know thats complete BS. It sounds like its one extra they need to run to tap into the wait to start light, it just seems like none of the installers bother to read up or call Astrostart about it. It most def is there and needs to be hooked up so you don't screw up the coils in the long term.

There is a module available for that, its listed in most of the astrostart threads. Your installer sounds as competant as all the others that people have been taking there trucks too.
I wonder why I'm not out there making money doing this if everybody else doing it is charging 500-600 bucks and they do it wrong!

The installer called AstroStart twice (at my insistance) while I was there listening. They told him it was not needed on the 2006.

Well astro start techs are not diesel experts. The fact is it is ideal to wait to start until they wait to start light is off. If it is really cold it could wait 7 or 8 seconds and the remote start will start after 3 or 4.
For the life of me I can't understand all the resistance to hooking up 1 simple wire. It is SOOOO easy to get at it's not even funny. You have to go to the same place for the tach wire anway so why not just hook up the one single simple wire? Lazyness or fear I am not sure.

I'd say it's ignorance. Either way, Tom S., make sure you get it hooked up to the glow plug wire. You don't want it starting while the coils are still going or starting long after they shut off.
