From the issues I have heard concerning chips for the 2006 Duramax LBZ damaging the Allison transmission I’m going to hold off on the chip for now. I am however, going to move forward with install in an exhaust and air intake. I would appreciate it if those of you who are more familiar with this upgrades could provide me on what brands exhaust and air intake seem to provide the best results. I hope to get the items ordered this week. Thanks.
:thankyou2

Like I've said... In "most" opinions the "AIR-Intake" that is "Stock" is very good. Take a look at;

As far as exhaust goes, I would recommend a "Cat-Back" system. Without the CAT you stand the chance of "CEL" codes and the possibility of "Warranty" problems. With that said, there are several systems out there. Take a look at;

I installed the "MBRP" Cool-Duals. A 4" Cat-Back system that includes the muffler and 5" tips. They sound good (Not loud). As far as "Doing Anything"... I don't know. I can't detect any difference in performance or mileage. I just like the "Looks"... (Pictures are in my Garage)

Good luck on your quest. And... Enjoy your new truck. :exactly:

I just ordered an Airaid intake and an MBRP full exhaust. I am still waiting on the Banks programmer but I simply couln't wait any more for their intake and exhaust to come out for the LBZ. The Airaid was the only intake I found that specifically stated it was for LBZ, and I see a lot of trucks run it here at work. The MBRP is a high quality exhaust and seems to make the same hp Banks promised. I will post my impressions after I receive and install the products, and also seriously considering dynoing to make sure there were gains. Does anyone here know what a broken in bone stock LBZ should make to the rear wheels on a Dynojet? Thanks.

OldmanWheeler,

Air in and air out is the best program for any engine much less a turbo'ed diesel!!! Better efficiency from the fuel you are currently able to burn too! The best intake is the AFE Pro Guard 7, Stage I or II. Exhaust is either MBRP or AFE, both allow you to select if you want to replace the front pipe or not and are available in all the different materials too! DO NOT BUY and intake for HP, buy if for more air to allow the fuel you have to completely burn efficicently!! This and exhaust will raise the engines efficiency level to the max it can be, then also when you add a HP module you'll be prepared for the fuel it provides! Call us we'll be glad to help you with any questions etc.

I installed my MBRP 4" exhaust I bought from you. It looks and sounds great and I am very happy with it. It is hitting in 2 places pretty bad. It was installed properly and fits perfect (after cutting about 9" to make it fit my ec sb), and looks good enough not to even require purchasing a tail pipe (it didn't come with any). I do have to figure out a way to stop the nasty hitting though (maybe modifying the hangers or something).

Oldmanwheeler- Welcome to the site! There is lots of good info here, enjoy all the reading. If you want to stay legal/dealer safe, go with a cat-back system. There are a few on the market now MBRP, Magnaflow, TTS, etc. Do a search and find out which one sounds best to you. As far as the intake goes, there are differing opinions. Give us a call if you have any questions and we will be glad to help.

4rotorCorvette,

Most likely you have the pipe that goes under the frame up at too steep an angle, twist it down someand the pipes will stop hitting the frame and all will be well. The aluminized and 409 stainless systems don't come with tips, but the 304 do. If you want some tips just let us know, we've got a lot of different styles to choose from. Glad you're enjoying it!
