Finally flushed the tranny yesterday at 36,800. Followed instructions previously posted for the changeover to Transynd, although I did not fill with Transynd, just refilled with Dexron III. I did this because we won't be towing for another year and figure I'll change to Transynd at that time. Most everything went smoothly - had a hard time getting the 5/8" heater hose on the "from cooler line" fitting - not much room to work. Finally got this on and fed the hose into a gallon milk jug. After draining the pan and replacing the spin on filter and measuring the amount of this fluid - about 6.5qts, I replaced this volume of fluid then had a friend start the engine and poured in more Dexron III as the old fluid was pumped into the jug. At one gallon I stopped. I figured the torque converter held 4.5 qts, so most was pumped out. After turning off the engine I was talking to my friend for a few minutes when I noticed the gallon jug was overflowing. Wasnt expecting this. Figured about a 1.5 qts overflowed. This was confirmed when I did the cold test. Had to add an extra 1.5 qts. Anyway, I had a nice mess to clean up. For anyone doing this, I'd suggest once you hit the target volume you want pumped out as you are matching that amount by pouring in new fluid, tell your friend to go have a beer while you finish the job. Or put the jug in an oil pan to catch possible overflow. Thanks to everyone on this forum and the info provided, I've done alot more "do-it-yourself" jobs than I ever thought I'd do because of this forum.
