Why are fuel prices going so high now? I haven't heard anything. Gas prices have gone down if anything, but diesel has gone up anywhere from 36-42 cents a gallon over the last week:mad:CensoredCensoredCensored

Price in AL has been stable. Prices will be going back up because oil has gone up over $2 a barrel. NEVER a good thing.

$2.47 last week in Lake Havasu, AZ and now at $2.51. I noticed the same thing about NJ prices when I was passing through there. It was a lot lower than the surrounding states. What gives?? I also noticed every time I go through there the attendent always insists on putting it in for you and was told once they had to by law. Is that for real?? Of course, being a DP member I said no way and filled it myself so as not to have diesel on the paint.

We just had an increase in Vermont, but it was only around 4 cents. Makes no sense, as the spot market price of diesel in NY Harbor is not increasing.

Plus there's market pressure caused by the foiled attack on the Saudi facility and the ongoing hostage taking and system attacks in Nigeria.

I'm a believer that is accounting for at least $0.50 a gallon right now.

The analysts are saying that there is around $10 a barrel in speculative investing. So oil would be low 50s- high 40s but hedge funds are making a fortune. There is talk about making the hedge funds take delivery of the oil that they are buying. That would keep speculators out of the market. It would help on prices greatly. Gas went to 2.45 and 2.55 diesel, in AL. Not very happy about that.

Idle_Chatter

Yep, the futures traders are a bad influence on the oil market. Diesel has been "hanging" at $2.59 to $2.66 here in southeastern Idaho for over a month now.

IMO they raise the prices because they can....They don't need a reason, but are always ready to use one.

IMO they raise the prices because they can....They don't need a reason, but are always ready to use one. I agree. Before winter they said diesel would skyrocket because of an inevitable thin supply due to use of home heating oil in the Northeast. We had a mild winter, supply and reserves are high, and the prices still went up. We just had 2 weeks of warm weather and the prices just jumped again.Censored Censored Censored Censored

I was just in my home town of Lake Tahoe for the weekend. The gas prices there are ridiculously high, usually one of the highest prices in the nation.

Regular unleaded was $2.87-$2.99. Diesel was $2.87 at every station but one. At that one station, the price was $2.86!! It was one cent cheaper than regular unleaded!! Those prices are the same prices that I am paying in Portland, OR. The price of gas is about $2.35 here. What the hell is the deal with a 50 cent a gallon mark-up:confused::rippedhan:cussing:

The prices for diesel in Tahoe goes to show they should be the same, if not less, than regular unleaded. It is total BS that we are paying more for diesel than gas.

If that was a politcal shot- You have to be the dumbest SOB on this board. THE US DOES NOT SET THE PRICE OF OIL. WE DO NOT GET ANY MONEY FROM THE IRAQI PEOPLE FOR THE SALE OF THEIR OIL. You have your head so far up Kerry and the other far left liberal crackpot's a$$ that you can not see the truth. The only money the US makes from oil is in tax revenue from the US oil company's taxes. So please pull your head out before making a statement.

Next time brush up on your political and economical reading before making a statement that is so false, that it causes you to be flamed. It is people like you that make me so Censored ing mad.

One of the best things I've heard in years happened just recently during the hurricane Katrina fuel bruhaha - An Exxon executive being interviewed on radio said in response to "windfall profits" charges: "Hey! we actually make a very small profit margin per gallon of gas - something on the order of 5 cents per gallon. But we DO sell a *LOT* of gallons!"

If you want to know why oil is so high, It is because of Hedge funds. The hedge funds and speculative investors are buying it up which causes the price to go up, then when it comes time for the contract to be fulfilled, they sell the contract. So hedge funds are pumping billions into it and making billions. Most analysts are saying that there is around $10 a barrel in speculative investing in oil. So before you start blaming Bush, blame Wall Street. Gas would be $.75ish less if the investors were forced to actully take delivery of the oil that they are buying the contract for. What would a hedge fund do with a million barrels of oil. NOTHING they cant refine it or sell it. They are forced to sell the contract to the oil companies. I have no problem with the oil company making a $.05- .10 a gallon, thats the price of a service economy. They have what we need, why not make a profit. Then you have around $.40-.50 a gallon in taxes. Then you have the market unleaded price, around $1.63. Then you have the local station getting $.01 a gallon. The local distributor/supplier charges anywhere from $.04-.10 a gallon. You also have the transportation fees from getting the oil to the refinery, to the major distributor, to the local distributor, then to the local station. The distribution side of fuel is set. Their prices really have not increased other than the transport because of higher fuel prices. The reason that gas is where it is at, as laid out before you is the market.

And most of all, The market does what it wants. And anyone who thinks that Bush or the Republicans have anything to do with the price, IS A FREAKING MORON. The only way that the price will be much more controlled would be to create rules which would require the purchasers of Oil Futures, to take delivery which would cause the hedge funds to stay out of the Oil market.
