How much difference is there b/w a complete performance exhaust system and just a freeflowing muffler with respect to lowering EGTs when using Juice?

I've heard that the stock Dmax system is very good with the exception of the muffler.

Matador,

The testing that was done on Power Strokes shows an approx loss of potential egt and HP by about 35% or so. In other words you are leaving about 35% lower EGTs and 35% more HP on the table. Granted this wasn't a D max but results will pretty close. Even on the new 4 inch Dodge we still get 100 degrees and 20 HP over the stock system. Call us if you have any questions etc.

cat removal didn't do aft on my 03. made more noise and smelled like a diesel but no increase in boost or performance. cat is being put back on today to recover mpgs that were also lost. EGT'S without cat were the same as with it.removal also caused it to shift goofy.

I had the same question recently, and my exhaust guy (who is well regarded in the local performance community) said the same thing about the muffler vs. exhaust. Here is the thread:

I haven't got an exhaust yet, but I did straight pipe it after adding the juice. The straight pipe dropped by EGT's ~70 degrees under basically all conditions.
