I just changed my fuel filter last night. I normally change the fuel filter at 6-7k miles. I have never had a drop of water in my filter untill last night.


I pulled the filter and let it drain into a mason jar. Sure enough after it drained there was close to a teaspoon of water in the jar.


Granted that is not much, but why didn't my WIF light go off? Does there have to be alot more than that in there?





It sure did run alot smoother this morning on the way to work.

The sensor is just a float switch. It takes more water than that to set it off. You have to get a really bad batch of fuel for it to go off in a hurry.

I believe there is a small float in the WIF sensor. In order to move the float and trigger the sensor, you would probably need to have considerably more than a teaspoon of water. I've drained out about 2 tablespoons of water from my filter and the WIF sensor had not been triggered. I have opened the valve several times on the bottom of the fuel filter, nothing comes out, not even diesel. Is this normal?

Open it further, and work the hand pump or open the bleeder to let it out more freely.





When I change the filter I open the bleeder and drain it out first.
