Does anyone have insight on the effects of removing the cat? I am thinking of going with a 4" Magnaflow on my LLY bu I am concerned about taking out the converter.

Don't know that one, BUT be aware eventually there will be smog cops checking this. Of course Calif. will be the first and probably starting late next year from what I've read recently.

I don't have to worry about smog checks here. I do worry about Oxygen sensors and that type of thing though.....

Shouldn't cause any problems, and the old system is easily removed w/o cutting so you can reinstall if necessary.

I have seen where some people have had problems with check engine lamps while others have not. So I think it may happen with some systems while it may not with others. The best advise one could give is buyer beware. If you do it and it doesn't work out you would become one of the "it doesn't work" group.

Good point.

One other thing is that if there is a problem somewhere, even totally unrelated, the dealer tech is likely to blame the modification. Having the old system available is a good idea.

100 - 150 degrees less on a 03 cali truck.04 lly could be different. I removed the cat to try some tests and came up with 0 difference just like the air filters that don't help. the best thing I did was remove the muffler and replace it with a straight pipe. later i added the banks cat back whitch works very well. the cat is going back on as i dont think removing it did jack S*** on my truck

Eric,

What is your opinion on the cat back systems? I really don't want to have to deal with the stealer BRAVO SIERRA if there is a problem.

Thanks,

ROB

Talked with the Banks representative at the LA Dyno event last February. He indicated that the stock muffler is fairly restrictive. They had removed and cut one open. He indicated there were several chambers inside that were interconnected with about a 2.5 inch pipe. So we have 3.5 inches in and out of the muffler, but what resides inside is the problem.

I still haven't had any problem with check engine lights. I did some towing yesterday...Nice! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I would say as long as you are either living in an area where you don't have Emissions checks, OR if you are willing to reinstall the cat pipe once a year, I'd go for it. I love the change on my truck.

My service writer at the local dealer has a D Max with Juce, intake, and exhaust. He really likes my system, and won't give me any trouble about it.

Installed a complete Flowmaster exhaust kit which requires removing the cat. Upon drivng away from the truck accessory shop that did the installation the check engine light came on. The error turned out to be insufficient EGR flow detected. Now the cat is back inplace and no check engine light.
