Is the fuel pump for the 05 lly in the tank or external? I ask this because i want to add a secondary filter and have heard of the lift pumps but was wondering if i could use a holley blue pump back by the tank to push the fuel to the primary pump to overcome the resistance of the primary pump. I hope that question is understandable.

There is no 'fuel pump', at least in the traditional sense. IIRC, fuel is 'pulled' from the tank, to the engine by the vacuum created by the injector pump. From there, it is pumped to the injectors. Cheers.

While some use the Holley pumps, I have not had good luck with them and they cause high restriction if they stop. I just posted a picture of a pump/filter combo in the thread about lift psi.
