Other than slight body style differences, are there any other differecnces between chevy and GMC?

The bowtie provides a superior drag coefficient. It's enough to shave a tenth off your quarter mile time. But I bought a Chevy mainly because there is only one dealer here in Anchorage that will do warranty work on a GMC. Most GMC dealers will do both, but a Chevy only dealer will not handle GMC. Other than that I know that the trim packages vary somewhat. And I have heard it claimed that GMCs tend to hold value a little better. --SS

They are built in the same plant, on the same Asse. line at the exact same time. The only diffs. are Bumper, Front end trim, Fenders, Hood, tail lights, side moldings, And badging.

Both are the best trucks on the planet! (Of course this is just one mans "Humble" opinion)

The GMC's come with more "standard options" than the Chevy's.

GM selects the highest quality parts and builds the GMC trucks. The Bowtie trucks are made with whats left over.... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Seriously, GMC and Chevrolet are the best trucks on the planet. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

And I believe the MSRP is usually higher than Chevy because of the "more standard options".

The base price is usually quite a bit higher but when you price two identical trucks its usually within a couple hundred dollars. My truck was about $200 more than the Chevy. My dealer sells both and built them up both ways for me.

As another forum member said,

"the Chevy Looks Like an Angry Chinaman coming down the street." http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifI chuckle every time I see a Bowtie, but other than that difference, and some base options, the trucks are the same. the Best in the World!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I hope you were kidding when you said General Motors Of Canada, because as we all know it is General Motors Corporation, and a around here a chevy only dealer will service any GM car or truck, they all get paid by GM so they will do the work.

Actually to tell the truth GMC stands for neither and really stands for:

General Motors Truck Company (later known as GMC) is organized on July 22, 1911, to handle sales of GM's Rapid and Reliance products.

I think chevys come with a full-floating rear axle and the gmc comes with a semi- floating rear axle as far as 2500hd are concerned.

I hope you were kidding, but in case you weren't my 2002 2500HD has a full floater 11.5" 14-bolt rear axle, and it's a GMC. When I spec'd them identically (which GM made hard to do by bundling different combinations . . .couldn't get a Chevy with the compass and temp mirror without fog-lightshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif) the price difference was $0.00. Since I didn't care about fog lights and wanted the temp and compass mirror the GMC was actually about $55 cheaper than the most similar Chevy I'd of orderred. That and the fact that in Northern Colorado the GMC dealer mechanics have better reputations than the Chevy dealer mechanics made my choice easy. (And they will NOT work on the "other" brand for warranty work . . . of course if you're paying the bill yourself they'll be happy to work on it.).

As far as warranty goes....GMC's can only get warranty work in a GMC dealer. Chevrolet's can only get warranty work in a Chevrolet dealer. At least that is in the USA. Canada may be different. This all went down just a few years ago. Big sign up at my GMC dealer.

Price wise, they're within $100 if you option EXACTLY which is sometimes hard to do.

For me, there are more GMC dealerships in a 20 mile radius than Chevy dealerships. Plus the Dealership that I bought from has earned my trust for the past 20 years. They are a HD truck dealer with 40 full size bays! 24 hr service and parts departments!

Anyways....I liked the looks of the GMC better. The grille, the hood, the fog lights, and I really like the AMBER rear turn signals.

GMC can have warranty work done at a chevy dealer, My last truck a 02 GMC Sierra was bought from kasper GMC in sandusky ohio and all warranty work was done where i bought my last 2 trucks at Dorr chevy in Milan ohio, GM pays the bill and as long as it is a GM certified dealer any one of the GM cars or trucks can get warranty work done there.

I've owned both as has my dad. I know they come off the same assembly line, but I just can't understand why I can keep a Chevy for 200+ thousand miles and a GMC won't go 100k. My GMC's rear main seal gave up the ghost at 86k, my dads at 88k. I'll take a Chevy over a GMC anyday!

Ive had 3 Chevys and 2 GMC's since 1996. Both GMC spent too much time getting repaired. The Chevys each went in once for something minor.

You guys enjoy your GMCs, but in a couple years when your cute little painted front fascia is all beat to hell, don't come crying to us men who have actual tough bumpers. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

It is easier to replace that dull gray thing underneath your bumpers than it is to repair a nicely painted one that matches the rest of the truck....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif
