: How much power can be put through the 6-speed

Okay, I have an 04' with the LLY and a 6-speed. Not common, but I have one. At any rate, have any of you hot-rodded the manual trans. to know it's limits? My last truck was a 2001 with the 6-speed and the 8100. Love the diesel mileage and power though!

Thanks in advance

Scott

I dont know if you know this, but the LLY is detuned to the power output of the older LB7 motors. (300 hp, 520 lb ft in all gears)

There is a reason that GM did this. The clutch and flywheel combo is a POS. Many have had failures. Luckily replaced under 100k mi powertrain warranty.

It will take a good amount of power, but I dont think it will hold it for too long. Im running a 40 hp, 100 lb ft program right now, and havent had any problems with it so far...

There are guys that are running some big power through them, and I think they have had problems.

Good luck, Im sure someone will chime in here before too long...

I would venture to say that the manual trans will only hold about 90HP just like the auto. I think that you would have to be more careful because you are in control of the RPM's more but I personally would not do anything over 100HP and then I would not have my foot in it too often. Good luck.

You forget hoss that egts fall off on the shifts..more likely to toast the engine with an auto by flooring than a stick, at least in a race..going up a hill is different...watch the egts like a hawk.

The transmission will hold more power than anyone is making yet or will probably ever make. The clutch will hold 150 hp and 350 tq for quite a while but as it wears it will start to slip and then it will only hold about 50hp and 100tq. The flywheel is hard to tell. I have one that has held well over 500 hp for 15k and had one that failed in 3k with 450hp. I have also known them to fail with 20k with no power enhancement's or ever even towing a trailer so it really depends.

All this is true I have 4,000 miles on mine and from what I've read the flywheel is starting to go. Just think one word "warranty".

And once your flywheel goes and gets replaced then your clutch will start slipping . . . http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

I've had the Juice/Attitude set on 125/325 for a while and have never had any clutch slippage, although I resist holding the pedal to the metal in 6th gear.
