I'm loking at these two tuners. Not really interested in a programmer because I like the shift on the fly feature. I don't need crazy HP because I'm still running a stock tranny. I'm looking in the second hand market to save a buck and the Van Aaken can be had for about $100 less. I don't plan adding much else. I'm looking for smooth power and reliability. What would you guys reccomend?

If you swear on your soul you will not be going any more power wise than the stock trans. will take, then the Edge is hard to beat. If you want to go big, the VA stacks well with about everything and has a lot more power available by itself. Do you want gauges? Edge has them built in, VA don't. They are both very good programs. I had both of them at one point. I have the 180 VA now and I like it, but you need a trans for it. I sold my Edge because I went big. I loved every second of the Edge, but it is useless on an LLY when you have a built trans.

Are you sure you have a VA 180 Bobo??):h

Like bobo said, VA is much better for big power, but Edge is great otherwise. I tend to think most people will want more and more once they feel what a little extra is like.

I'm not opposed to more power down the line but tranny work isn't cheap and I'm not looking to roast the stocker right now. A little tire smoke would be nice. Stock this thing is kinda slow to get going.

Not enough power. I spent a good amount of money on a trans. I'm not running a 100 hp program that don't stack with anything. There are bigger and better programs out for the LLY. One big problem with the Edge is how it waits based on ECT to turn the power on. I don't like that with an adaptive learning trans. A VA box can be upgraded for a very reasonable price to the 180 box once the trans is done. Edge doesn't offer any upgrades for the LLY.

We agree. The VA will stack great with many other play toys out there. But if you want a single investment that will do it all the Edge and Attitude is a great system. We have sold many of both products and have had great success with them. We do get more Edge sales, but recently VA is picking up pretty fast.

I guess it all depends on what you want from your truck, and what you will be doing with it as well and how far you want to build it up. Gauges and a trans are a must for adding much power, but I bet you knew that already.

Start slow and have fun. But remember, once you start you will always want more....hahaha. Its a fun addicitve power loving diesel world out here!

The Edge EZ is pretty darn nice and best match to stock transmission. The Edge will tow better and will not stretch the transmissions capabilities like the VA 130 while still responding better to load.
