Can someone please tell me where I can disable this thing. I hate it!!!! I always leave the key in the ignition of my truck as I have the remote and an additional one in my pocket at all times. Is there a fuse I can pull out?

You can make it louder http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif There is no simple way to remove it. You could cut the wire that senses the key in the ignition or put a switch inline with the wire that senses when the door is open. That is about all you can do.

I think it's routed through the sound system.

I also leave my key in the ignition, but I pull it out slightly to make the bell stop.

You can set it on the lowest setting which is just above annoying but way below mind blowing highest level. Its in your owners manual and you hold two buttons on the radio or something like that.

Here's a link I found - I haven't tried this:

"Remove the knee bolster underneath the steering wheel. Find the BCM (body control module). There are 3 large connectors going into the BCM. From left to right they are numbered J2, J3 & J4. In J4 locate the wire going to pin connecter A1. The wire is light green. Unhook this wire by pulling the retainer off the back, then pull on the wire while shoving a tiny screwdriver up the whole until it submits and slides out. (Actually the release is on the side closest to the middle of the plug in the whole. Tape the lose wire up and reassemble."

You have to sign up for the forum to view the link.

Also, you have to reprogram your DIC to set the driver 1 / driver 2 settings when the key is inserted & not when the doors are unlocked, I guess...Edited by: conradv

Yes, it goes through the speakers.

I've complained to my service manager just for kicks.

If you disconnect that wire then you can lock your keys in the truck. The door wont lock if it sees the key in ignition. Im sure there are other things too that wont work. Like the 20 minute int light off feature. The security (for what its worth).

Here are the pics from that site......

Hmmmmm... All I did was take out that little circuit board tapped the solder iron on each post and popped the little bastard out of there and then put the board back. Amazing how much noise that little thing can make. Mine is a 2002 though so maybe they changed it to go through the speakers. That would seem a little extreme though. Edited by: IMAD!man

I'm going to agree with Problem Child. If you disable it, you are removing a LOT of other nice features.

These are features on these vehicles that HELP us.

The first time you LOCK your truck with the Key INSIDE, you'll be kicking yourself SO hard.

I am infact going deaf (or so my GF says) but the door chime in the speakers is just about right for me.

Di wish that when you hit the DOME light override button that the chime would stop. Would be nice for outdoor activities where you want to hear the radio with the doors open.

Just where in the overcomplicated owners manual is the procedure for adjusting the volume of the chime?

Yesterday I found out how to activate the door locks at 8 mph instead of when you pull it OUT of PARK. But saw nothing about door chimes.

I just saw it on another thread and tried it on mine, but the volume control didn't work like the thread said. So on mine;

Key on, engine off, radio off. Hold down the #6 pre-set button, the display will light up with either "loud" or "normal" and the chime will come on, you can adjust it by releasing the #6 button and hold it down again and the other value will come up.

On my 02 if I want the doors open and the radio on, I flip the latch in the door and it stops the chime. Don't know if it works on an 03 or 04 though. Just remember to release it before closing the door again.
