I am currently going about 7500 Miles between Oil Changes and am having to add 2 Quarts of Oil at about 6500 Miles because it is telling me low Oil on the DIC. Does this sound right? Should I have the stealership look at it. This has went on for the last 3 oil changes.

Did you change to synthetic?

At 5,000 miles I am usually 1 quart low.

I go 10,000 on synthetic without the Add oil light, but it is close.

yeah, a quart low is what i usually have to put in too, but 2? sounds like a bit much to me and i have just over 375,000 km on my duramax.

5-7000 between changes (usually closer to 5000) and only had to add 1 qt between changes one time. 68,000 on the clock and still running strong.

63000 and I don't have to add oil. When I pull the stick before I drain its at the same point as when I filled it. Change 4-5000 miles.

I have never had to add oil in between oil changes. I always change mine around 5000 miles. I wouldn't think they would use oil?

78,000 miles, 7,500 - 10,000 between changes and have never seen the engine need any oil between them. I run Valvoline Super Blue 5w-40 synthetic

I shifted to synthetic this winter when I moved up North from sunny South Carolina. I go about 6000 miles between changes, never had to add any more oil. I have a 2003 with 75,000 miles. Having to add more than 1 quart seems a bit much. When my 2000 Dodge with the 360 in it started using oil at more than 1 quart every 3000 miles, with no signs of leakeage, I got rid of it. (The transmission locked up and ate itself 6 months earlier after towing a measly 3000 pound boat.)

Hope the dealer can resolve your issue.

Running Rotella, I haven't ever had to add any between changes, dont' think it's been below a half quart either. I use the idiot thing on the DIC and change at about 25% oil life, think thats about 7000 miles the way we drive it.

5000 miles between changes and have never needed to add oil between changes. Even towing our 5th wheel (about 10,000 lbs) to Alaska - never had to add oil. Using Mobil synthetic and have 65000 miles on a 2002.

You wont get GM to do anything about it they will call it normal.I know some of the 8.1 are oil eaters and GM's spec is a quart in 1000 miles on that.

I have never had to add oil 'except' one quart when I first switched to Syn many moons ago.Switch oil brands,I would suggest.Run Rotella or Mobil or Penn.

I have occasionally had to add 1/2 to 3/4 qt. to top back off. This seems to have occured after some hard towing and warm weather and about 3,000 to 4,000 miles. It almost seems random, because sometimes it won't drop below the full line for 5,000 mi., when I usually change the Rotella T for some fresh oil.

2001 with 73,000 miles, change oil every 5000 miles with 15W-40 Shell Rotella, 10 qt in 10 qt out.

Since using Amsoil my oil is down about 2 to 3 ticks on the dipstick after about 9k to 10k miles.

I usually let the DIC get to about 25% oil life remaining and I change. I also have the Fumoto valve and I make sure I lift the truck frontend up a bit to get all the old oil out.
