Ok i am lookin at gettin some stacks on my truck and i was thinkin of doing somethin differnent and gettin them powdercoated instead of the chrome since i think it would look cool with my rims however apparently the distributor told me that his powder coater said that the coating begins to melt off around 300 degrees. I was wondering how hot does the actual exhaust pipe itself get with no muffler or cat or are there any high temp alternatives to powder coating w/ the same results?

I've seen flames coming out of stacks before. I would think they MAY get hot from time to time when you are really pouring the coal to it!

My powder coater hear in Memphis has a black that he uses on exhaust pipes and it stands up to 12-1300 degrees. I know this cause we had it done to our first junior dragster header and it never peeled or discolored. Ricks Powder Coating on 3487 Democrat Rd in Memphis, TN 38118. 901-367-2771 I'm thinking of having mine done up to the point where the chrome stacks start. Tell him I sent you.

I was thinking about the same thing, if I ever go with stacks. I think it would look sweet on a truck with black accents. 300° wouldn't be nearly enough temp. resistance though. I wonder how expensive the 12-1300° coating would be?

Yeah, it can be done. Our powder coater does some mufflers for us. It's a 1200 degree temp powder. That should be more than enough. Most exhaust dont burn hotter than 1000 degree's. (by the time it gets to the stacks that is)

Contact BigBadDodge on here or get on his website, his are coated and he's always helpful and open about what he has done to his truck so I'm sure he could steer you in the right direction as well.

yea i like bigbaddodges but i was lookin at for something with a more gloss finish instead of the matte black- was talking to a friend about maybe trying to get them anodized black is that possible or can it only be done to aluminum?

The only difference between what you want (glossy finish) and BigBadDodge's(matte finish) is the powder applied to it. I would think you could have any color high temp powders baked on. Just a matter of what you tell them.
Only reason you may not be able to get glossy is because it may not be offered in hightemp applications. Otherwise, options are open. I suggest you contact a Powder Coater near you to further investigate this if you really want glossy black pipes.
Good luck, I'd like to see some Black Chrome stacks personally!
