: Lift voids the powertrain warranty?

When buying my truck ('04 CC) I asked specifically if a lift kit would void the warranty. He (finance guy) said it would void the suspension but specifically said it would not harm the motor/trans. Today I asked one of the service managers the same thing and he says that even changing the tire size with void the powertrain warranty. He says it's due to the speeds being read in the front and back wheels can cause it to throw a code.

I called the finance people and they said the lift would not void it but larger tires would. (lift and larger tires go hand in hand) They will give my money back on the extended warranty.

Anyone else had problems getting warranty work done after a lift?

Just depends on what stealer you go to. My guy doesn't even care if I show up with the Juice/Attitude on.

I've had a couple of minor things done under warranty. The Service writer said "as long as the mod's did not cause the problem, I'll fix it". That's good enough for me. DinoMaxhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I would liek to find this in writing if I can. They claim that the size of teh tires throws off the speedo calibration etc etc.

Any idea where I can find this info?

Mine has seen my lift and have no problems with it. I was upfront with them before I ordered mine so we are all on the same page.

Definately ... If a regional shows and push comes to shove on warranty repair you lose.... Unless the dealer, one goes to bat for you ,or foots the bill ... If the dealer will honor in writing I would take their word for it otherwise forget it...

Chances are they'll say sorry ... I doubt rolling in on 245's will help except for Allison issues but I wouldn't hold my breath ...

I'm surprised they'll even work on a lifted truck ...

I had problems even after I was completely upfront with the dealer before purchase.. When I brought it in, they said they couldn't warranty the truck at all bc I'd altered it.. Whatever you do, be careful unless you know someone in the dealership.. I ended up taking the suspension lift off completely.. Anyone need a set of weld stonecrushers and 39'' mickey thompson tires?? I have a set with very few miles on 'em...

Why is everyone so worried about what the dealer thinks? Federal Law ""Magnuson Moss Warranty Act" http://autopedia.com/html/HotLinks_LemonMM2.html" forbids anyone from voiding a warranty based on alterations. The dealer/manufacturer has to prove that is was the alteration that caused the problem. You dont have to prove anything, it is up to them. If they prove it was your alteration that caused the problem, then that and only that repair is out of your pocket. You have the option of having a third party look at it if you disagree with the dealer, but if it is the alteration, its your dime on only that problem.

If they hassle you, get your lawyer and they will change thier attitude.

robh2 have you taken that stance against a dealer. I for one have not but I think it goes without saying, easier said than done! Fact is GM has money and if they want to drag things out they will. Don't get me wrong I think the Magnusoin Moss Act is a great assest for us aftermarket supporters but it's not bullet proof.

Mike it all depends on the dealer. Some are cool about mods and others will weasel their way out using any excuse they can. The dealer will not put anything in writing and if they do you better run down and by a Lotto ticket http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif. My suggestion is to try and makes friends w/ the Service Writers/Managers and hope for the best. Being nice has seemed to help me out in the past but then again I haven't had the need for major warranty repairs. It's obviously harder to get a tranny or engine replaced than other minor problems. What lift plans did you have in mind?Edited by: y2kboti

I have asked a couple service managers about this over the phone. They all say any mod voids all the warranty, and when you say "Magnuson-Moss" they are not impressed. However, they also often say that if the item you want to warranty is not associated with the lift, then they will go a head and warranty it as long as the GM rep isn't in town.

We really need someone with some $$ to call their bluff and sue them over this. Not sue them to win a big settlement, but just sue them so they will abide by Magnuson-Moss.

It would be nice if they would honor all reasonable claims on modified vehicles, and if they determined the mod did cause the problem then GM would go after the manufacturer of the modded part.

There is a local dealer near me that sells Silverado's 1500's and 2500HD's with lifts, larger rims, tires, custom paint jobs, and other aftermarket items and yet you put a different air filter under the hood and boom no more warranty. What a joke. It all depends on who you know. This is always going to be the case I guess....
