More frequently we see issues/problems and generally bad experiences on theses forums. There are some bright spots too ~ and today, when I took my truck in for servicing and an allison issue, was one of those bright spots. I got to meet their resident factory trained duramax master tech (only 75 in the nation?). He was generous enuff to spend some time chatting about the duramax. Learned much from the discussion and invited him to visit us here on the forum. He flashed the ecm/tcm and explained what to expect ~ to tell the truth, I was surprised at performance increase ~ I think what happened is that I had spoiled the truck and it learned to be lazy/sluggish. What w/the reflash and quicklearn rebaselining of its performance ~ all the sudden its a 3 1/2 ton sports vehicle.

The tech shared thots on the injectors issue amongst other topics I hope will share w/the forum if/when he checks in.

Shumdit,

What specifically were the reflashes for?

Thanks

ShumDit, can you explain how (what you mean by) the truck became lazy and sluggish?Edited by: Lakedaisy

Rance,

Did they take care of your 5-3-4 downshift issue?

The lazy and sluggish from what I understand is the tranny "learns" your driving habits and remembers how you drive the most, and tunes itself to that configuration.

If you're constantly on the throttle, the transmission learns that you like to drive quickly and will hold itself in each gear longer for quicker acceleration performance, and less if you do not need it

The transmission can learn from your driving habits it will store information about how you drive and tune the transmission operate using the data collected and processed by the TPS throttle position sensor, engine control module, and and other sensors from the past few trips and optimizes the transmission for what it thinks is the best operation this can be a good thing or a bad thing at times. notice next time you drive it a little hard and then get back in it it shifts sporty and if you baby it next time you push it to the floor and go no where

LakeDaisy ~ like Kendall said. Me think that I trained it to be so. It was insidious and really didn't know it at the time ~ at least until it was reflashed. It always seemed to have enuff power ~ but now, it seems to have much more.

RonJT ~ The flashes were 'all available at this time'. As Tsckey indicated ~ I experienced a 5 -3 -4 downshift on long steep grades under tow. Gets a lil wild hitting the rpm limit, shutting down pilot injection etc (read: lil' lady adding her db's to the ruckus).

Tsckey ~ we hope ~ I'll need to hookup the trailer and head up the hill to tell for sure ~ perceptions are just that but I think the rest of the shifting is more positive than before. As for the other issue of the 4WD lite coming on when all activity breaks loose ~ said its possible that the reflash may correct a 'communication' issue. We'll have to see.

Thanks Kendall69 and ShumDit. I must drive my truck easier that I thought. When I floor the gas pedal the transmission seems to shift way too quickly into the next higher gear (through all the gears). Guess I taught mine to be sluggish as well.

This is absolutely the best truck I have ever owned. Edited by: Lakedaisy
