I have a friend who is running a chip and some sort of box or something. The chip is adjusted with x amount taps on the go pedal. I am not sure exactly what products he has. But he is not going for larger exhaust. I know this is a no no with a 7.3 powerstroke because egts may climb to unsafe levels, but is it ok on the d max. Thanks

the unit is the juice and yes its safe with non towing situations but has restrictions while towing......guages are recommended when towing in power levels above level 2 standard juice

If he doesn't want to spend, tell him to have the muffler yanked and straightpipe it. $45

clydesdale,
Don't want to upset anyone, but if they are towing any significant amount of weight they need to upgrade to the Attitude and or get a set of gauges. With enough weight and a stock truck on a serious incline you can get into 1300 degrees pre turbo fairly easily. Have him give us a call if he needs any specific info. Exhaust will of course lower those egt's, but gauges will let him know where he is at anyone moment.

I agree with Mark! You would be surprised how easily you can get the EGTs up high, even With exhaust. IMO some type of pyrometer is a must with any chip.

I'v been told for drag racing porposes its ok to let them reach like 1500 or so just as long as its only for a brief period of time. So....
What is the highest sustained egt you should allow your truck to reach while towing or climbing a big hill?
