: What else to do to my 2006 LBZ?
06DMAX00CAMSS 02-20-2006, 08:33 PM Ok...I have a 2006 2500HD 6.6L Duramax LBZ 2WD crew cab. The ONLY performance upgrade I have for the truck is a 4" MBRP stainless steel catback with front pipe. Everything else is completely stock other than appearance mods. I plan to do an Edge programmer when it becomes available. This is my first diesel truck and don't know too much about them. Well other than the exhaust and programmer, is there anything that I should consider doing to my truck for performance, better gas mileage, etc.? I'd also like to block off the EGR, but from what I've read, they haven't got the computer issue figured out yet for the LBZ. So if you have any suggestions whatsoever, please let me know. Thanks.
Jperry 02-20-2006, 08:35 PM I think you better add an EGT gauge before you get too carried away with performance mods.
06DMAX00CAMSS 02-21-2006, 01:31 PM I plan on installing a pyrometer and boost guage in the near future. I'd like to add some more power to the truck and get a little better gas mileage and was wanting suggestions on what else to do.

Check out the "OEM Allison" threads... You add "Ponies", you need to "Accommodate" the Transmission... or else.
Do a search on posts by MikeL... :exactly:
06DMAX00CAMSS 02-25-2006, 10:50 PM I really don't want to mess with the tranny. I was wondering if there were any fuel, ignition, intake, exhaust, computer, or other external modifications I should consider doing. I just got a service engine light last night because of my exhaust (no cat). It didn't come on right away, it actually lasted for about 3 weeks. Anyhow, if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know, thanks.
Drywall1 02-25-2006, 10:55 PM Word is the LBZ trans is going quicker than any other allison in previous years. Dmaxallitech and Mike L. will tell you modifications are needed before "chips" are put to it. Just search "C3 LBZ" and you will see what I mean. Good Luck

John DiMartino 02-26-2006, 09:13 PM For now, leave it alone, its a very strong truck, bone stock, get some miles on it,and an oil sample or 2 ,once the engines broken in and your comfortable that the truck hasnt got anything wrong where youd need to take it to the dealer,if you want to void your warranty do it then, but Id stick to a small box oe tuner you can take out of needed.
Wolford 02-26-2006, 11:30 PM The trans wont take it. It needs to be upgraded. I know first hand and Mine is a 5 speed to boot.
06DMAX00CAMSS 02-27-2006, 07:46 AM I'll keep the tranny thing in mind. Any particular company you suggest going through if and when I do upgrade?
How 'bout the intake? Would a cold air do anything for the truck? I'm talking an AFE stage 2 with ProGuard 7 filter.

Save the money and put it into the tranny. Many tests have been done and it dosen't seem to do anything but increase turbo noise. Which is cool but does nothing for performance. Suncoast or ATS are 2 big names in the Allison aftermarket. Do some searches on the above and it will keep ya busy reading for a while.

06DMAX00CAMSS 02-27-2006, 10:40 PM Does the AFE stage 2 intake with Pro Guard 7 filter any better than a stock airbox and filter? Does it flow any better? Is there any power increase whatsoever? I like the fact that it increases turbo wistle and if that's all you get out of it, I'd buy it, BUT, only if it maintains the same filtration or better. I'm sure it'll outflow it, but I want to make sure that it doesn't filtrate any less.
Wolford 02-27-2006, 11:52 PM Humm, I am not sure on the filtration issue. But suncoast and ATS are two good places to start for a tranny upgrade.
