I have owned this vehicle for just one year next month and I have 15,000 miles on it. It runs just fine, tows just fine and I get good diesel mileage, (18.5 city and 22 highway...combined is usually 20). I know that I read about a lot of problems especially the injector issue but the vehicle still runs fine. I put 6 onces of Stanadyne in the fuel which I did with my Dodge Cummins, and I have Racor pre-filter on order from Lubrication Specialists to be installed by my Chevy Dealer, but my vehicle still runs fine. I probably will jinx myself, but, hey, what the heck. I like the vehicle. It is much quicker out of the box than the Dodge (2001 HO 6 speed), tows very well, the transmission is the best automatic that I have ever had. Anybody else satisfied with their vehicle and is it performing up to your expectations?

Just a follow up note: we have 32 respondants on this thread and over a 1000 views. It would be interesting to see if the other 1000 views have satisfactory performance from their Duramax investment.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif I have an 2001, and mine runs Excellent, even with the mods I have done. I ran the Truck hard when I first installed my Juice. But since have kept it down to a reasonable and prudent speed. I am just shy of 30,000 miles, and plan on keeping it till I turn at least 200,000 miles more. Like most all new Dmax owners, I was wondering What did I get myself into after reading all the stuff about the injector's issues. But, like I have read and have seen in other post on the site. The injector issues are few. When something is Good, most people are just content, and don't really express the Good. But when something goes wrong, thats when they say something.
So for know I am Happy with My Dmax, thats my thoughts.

Yep, I agree. You know it's a good vehicle when most of the owner's get excited about how well their truck performs. When you think about it, it's like getting excited about the performance of a garden tractor. My truck was bought for a pretty utilitarion purpose, Tow and haul. It more than meets my needs with the added benefit of hauling serious butt when it needs to. A bonus in my book. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Plus, it's way nicer than my garden tractor. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

2004 cc sb 2wd d/m alli. I love this truck! only 5200 miles so far, changed rear fluid today. Didnt look bad at all, put Mobil 1 in it as I have had great luck with there stuff. 19mpg around town, 21highway.Only mod is banks 4" monster exhaust mostly to get rid of egt's, But beinng a street rodder I was looking for a little tone too. Sounds real good. Stanadyne p/f every tank. Transfer flow 50 gallon tank on order, have some out west towing to do and its a long ride from Jersey.

I have a 2003 with 21000 miles. Just over a year old. Best rig I have ever owned. Have the steering rattle and they replace the box that makes the 4x4 need service light come on. Pull a 10,000# trailer. Best tranny made......mileage is almost 11 pulling and almost 20 when not. It is comfortable. I really like my truck.

Only mod. is a transferflow fuel tank (30 gal x bed) Plan on installing an aux. filter.

Over all I am very pleased with my truck. It has some cheapness to it that bothers me because it was so expensive, like the paint, shocks, speakers, interior plastic parts and tires. But beyond those things it's a good rig. The performance is totally beyond my expectation for a diesel pickup. Slowly over time I will change some things that I don't like. Right now I have 4 new speakers on order, (6.5 inch Infinity Reference). And soon I would like to bolt on some Bilstiens. And then eventually I will put on some decent rubber. For the time being I would definately say that the glass is half full, (OK maybe 3/4 full)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif --SS

Lovin my 03. It is 16 months old and has just over 18,000 trouble free miles. We tow a 10,000lb 5er with ease. Hasn't seen the dealer since I took delivery, except for a free oil change. Best truck I have ever owned, most dependable as well, it's a keeper!!

Amen everyone... our trucks don't look as big and mean as say the furds and durdges, but they pack the most punch in my opinion... while at work the other day there was a durdge CTD pulling out of a parking lot and it sounded so loud I thought it was pulling 25000#'s through a quarter mile run, then I looked and realized it was SLOWLY pulling out of the parking lot...

Ditto. You always ONLY hear the bad.

Even if the sentence has all good information, the bad word will be the only one that you remember.

Everytime I am in selling mode(see a guy at the truck stop, rest area, campsites, etc), I always put the good foot forward....There is no bad information to tell anyway!

I had the check 4wd light come on and some problems with the remote door locks and passenger window lift. All fixed in one trip to the dealer. Never a problem with the engine. At just a tick under 28,000 mi. it runs as smoothly as a turbine. I originally bought it to tow, never dreaming that it would become my all time favorite vehicle. The engine is stock and will stay that way for maximum longevity, but I'm going to put either a freer muffler or Banks on it to lower EGTs under load. Everything else will be done to make it last longer. I already have one of Nick's filters, next will be an Oilguard. I guess after reading Spicer's preliminary test results the UNI will go back in the box and I'll get another paper airfilter. Oh, well. I like the idea of a lifetime, reusable filter, but until the manufacturers come up with a product that lives up to their Bull Spoilage, I'll keep killing trees.

TSCKEY: Put that Banks on you will love it! I dont have a cat but still bought a cat back system. All I wanted to do was change out muffler anyway, so I left that 3-31/2 foot piece where cat would be in and went 4' and monster muffler from there on.Saved a few bucks. Tone is GREAT> Buy the way its a lb7, and i run stanadyne p/f every tankEdited by: BRUCE

Only have 4000 miles on mine, but have a 5000 mi tow coming up in May. No problems at all so far. I installed a Nicktane filter kit at 1300 miles and also use Standyne. Hope this keeps the fuel system in good shape for a long time.

Have 40,000 miles on my 2002, and it runs great. The forums had me scared to death about injectors, but talked to 3 dealers in area and they haven't seen a bad one yet. So as an old song says, don't worry-be happy.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Getting over 21 MPG on highway, and the truck rides better than most cars.

My truck is 6 months old with 13000 miles and I love it. I wouldn't go back to a gasser for anything. Drove an LLY the last two days while mine was being serviced and WOW. Definately quicker turbo spinup. You can feel the extra torque, otherwise similar trucks.

03, 24000 miles, one crank case sensor replaced by dealer, other than that no problems. best thing I've ever owned. It was good to read some people not having problems and using their trucks. I've been like a cat in a room full of rockin chairs since I found this site.but I've learned what to keep an eye on.

mileage is holding around 18 to 21 and pulls like a mule.

I have a 2004 LLY with about 1000 miles on it. I took it easy for the break in period(500 miles) and was still taking it easy.

After I got the rig all set up for towing my 5th wheel, I decided that this rig is taller than my 2002 and that it wouldn't be wise to tow my trailer because of the lack of space between the trailer and the bed of the truck. I had my trailer towed to a trailer place to get work done on the springs to make the trailer taller.

So last Thursday, my trailer was ready and I went to pick it up. I hooked up and pulled onto the highway, driving about 35 MPH. Everything was fine. I was thinking to myself, now I can see what this new truck will do. Now I can feel all the power as I pull my trailer up the upcoming hill. Now, I can see and feel why I spent so much money on this ride and justify it!!!!!!!!

Well, once I hit the hill, I was really bummed outhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif. The thing wouldn't go faster than 30-35 MPH. My old 2002 with the 6 liter did better. I'm no mechanic, but I knew there was something seriously wrong.

The next day I went to the dealer and had it checked out. It turns out(at least from what I was told) that a sensor on the accelerator pedal(there are 3 sensors on the pedal) was not working and not turning on the turbocharger. Well, that would explain the lack of power, I hope. And, of course, they didn't have one of these sensors in stock and would have to order it.

Anyhow, tomorrow I have an appointment to get the new sensor installed. I tend to be a Murphy's Law kind of guy and have what some might say is a shi##y attitude, but I'm praying that this will solve my problem. Find out tomorrow!!!

Just wondered if anyone else has had this type of problem??? It seems on the one hand, that all the high tech. electronics on these new vehicles are really great and exciting. BUT, on the other hand, there is a lot more to go wrong(Murphy's Law) with this high tech. stuff and there isn't much the consumer can do to figure out what the problem is or fix it.

Other than the above, I love the truckhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifWell, at first I thought that they were feeding you BS about "not turning on the turbocharger" - until I saw that you have an LLY. I guess your bad sensor was keeping the variable vane controller from giving you the correct boost, which would definitely squash your horsepower. You're gonna be a lot happier when your turbo is back in the game - trust me!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I just passed the 10,000 mile mark on my 2003 D/A. I can really see an increase in power! I got on it yesterday to pass some slow traffic, for the first time I could feel the turbo spool and it really got up and went. I am liking my Duramax more every day I own it. My previous pickup was a 98 CTD. I was satisfied with it, only problem was it was a Dodge, and I have always been a GM fan. In the first year I had more problems with the Dodge than I have had with my Duramax. I lost throttle response with the Cummins, it was down for 2 weeks for the dealer to get authorization to install a new TPS. They had the tranny out 3 times in the first year, it never did perform like I thought it should. The Allison is way better. Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth!!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifEdited by: BIGMoe

I have an '03, purchased in Sept. of '03 with 11K. Added the Cat pre OEM fuel filter early on. No mods. Getting great fuel mileage, 18-20 mpg combined freeway/country driving, 14 towing. No problems at all.

Hi guys,

I just picked up my LLY on the 24th. The engine runs some what smooth for a first time diesel owner, it seemed to be quite a bit louder than an older/same year GMC that I saw at a window tinting shop yesterday.

My engine just sounds louder. Do the Durmax quiten down as they break in?

Thanks.

40,700 miles last night. I have worked this truck hard and drove this truck hard. I have had a few minor warranty issues(i.e. bulbs, speakers, heated mirror). Just changed my original fuel filter last week. I can say I am extremely happy with this truck and that is is performing the way I expected it to when I bought it.

bought my LB7 2004 in Nov. 2003. She's got 5500 miles on it. I love it to death. Dealer replace the fuel sending unit that's it. After 23K miles in two years on a 8.1L HD I won't go back. I'm sold on my Dmax HD. Wouldn't change a thing. Ok maybe the rims... and tires... and add some new step bars... well you get the point.
