Engine light came on yesterday at 674 miles, new lly. Arg, back home asap. Parked overnight. Mucho disappointment.

Wait to start light took a loong time to go out this morning (it was cold, 20 or so, but has been fine on other cold starts), then a hard start with a good amount of smoke. Ran fine on way to dealer.

Just called, was told there's a "PI (preliminary something)" dated 3/2 about the glow plug module, but there's no fix yet. GM says to unplug the module and then plug it back in to clear the light, but there's nothing else yet. Guy told me it'll probably come in the form of a download.

I asked, so it's fine to drive it? Yes. What about the hard start and the lengthy light? It shouldn't be detrimental. What about if the light comes back on? They said it most likely would, but it should be no problem. Huh?

He gave me the code for the error but I didn't write it down fast enough. I will also get a copy of this bulletin and report back. I have not heard anything about this, either here or at rv.net.

I ain't a happy camper right about now (but the truck does seem to run fine, otherwise someone might be dead...)

Its no big deal, first year run, getting the bugs out.. This happens more then you might think, a problem with no resolve at this time, but "engineering is developing a fix"

Eric, thanks, I think...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Regarding the long light, hard start and puff of smoke- if the glowplugs are not operating, what is the possibility of harm?

I have a new Duramax LLY and also have had a glow plug control problem. It set codes for #2,4 and #8 glow plugs. The light came on about once a week until I got it to the dealer. (I was able to clear and reset the MIL with a generic scanner.) The dealer did find a loose connector on the ECM. He reseated it but found nothing else. I got the truck back on Friday and over the weekend it hasn't come on again. But sometimes it took a week. The truck always runs and starts fine and the time the wait to start light is on is only a few seconds. It was just that pesky MIL light. I still think it is a problem with the Glow Plug Controler. Time will tell. I will keep everybody posted.

Here is the PI info.

An internal problem with the glow plug controller may cause an intermittent DTC U0106 to set and the technician is unable to clear it using the Tech 2. The only way to clear this DTC is by removing all power to the glow plug controller. Unplug both connectors to the glow plug controller and reconnect. A change to the glow plug controller is pending. Replacing the controller will not repair this condition.
