: "The Silver Fox" Oil Leak Repaired
CRICKEYDOG 02-18-2006, 03:45 PM :D :D :D :D :D "The Silver Fox" is once again back home in her personal driveway after spending 3 days at the dealer to repair an oil leak. Actually, after talking with the mechanic late yesterday afternoon, it turned out to be 2 seperate oil leaks.
The first leak was from a gasket where the oil filter assembly unit mates to the LBZ motor. The oil filter assembly had been machined improperly and did not seat properly when installed against the motor. Eventually, oil pressure caused the improperly seated assembly gasket to fail creating an oil leak. The dealer said "The Silver Fox" was the 2nd LBZ moter they have repaired with this exact same oil leak problem which usually surfaces within 30 hours or so of use.
The second oil leak, although the second leak had 3 seperate sources, came from two oil lines running to the oil cooler and also a leak from the oil cooler itself. The fix was to replace all of the oil cooling line fittings and also the entire oil cooler.
We just brought her home this morning. It's raining here in ATL today and is supposed to rain well into next week. I slid a piece of cardboard under the truck and hopefully if any oil leaks are still present we'll find them before Monday. However, I have a good diesel mechanic, Mike, at the dealer. Mr Mike say's he repaired all of the leaks. Details to follow. The dealer, even though wet weather is forecast all week here in ATL, completely detailed the truck; underside, inside, and out and had "The Silver Fox" sitting underneath an alcove this morning at the dealer ready for delivery; again! The dealer has been absolutely super and has made the initial maintenance problems with "The Silver Fox" very easy to deal with. "The Silver Fox" is a beautiful and complicated piece of incredible machinery. To own her is such a privilege not taken lightly. We feel very blessed to have been able to finally own such a wonderful truck. Hopefully we've cleared up all of "The Silver Fox's" initial maintenance issues. I think she's ready to start pulling our 5'er fella's and Bristol is just about a month away.
Truck on!!!
Big Jack 02-18-2006, 04:33 PM Glad to here you got her home. I had to sell our spring race tickets, "something about our 25th anniversary". But we will be there in the fall.:ro) Hope that is the last of your troubles.
CRICKEYDOG 02-18-2006, 04:40 PM Howdy "Big Jack". Bummer. Sorry to hear you can't make the spring race! Our anniversary is March 25th so I usually tell the squeeze her anniversary gift is Bristol tickets!:D I mean come on!!! What better anniversary present can you think of than a week at Bristol and tickets to the Busch & Cup races?):h Some gal's just don't get the big picture and understand how much we guy's go out of our way to give the ultimate anniversary gift eh? Maybe see ya next year.

RayMich 02-18-2006, 04:44 PM Hey Crickeydog,
I'm glad you got your truck fixed and back home. Sounds like you have a very good dealer there. Can you post the name of your dealer? My son lives in Marietta and I want to make sure I know where there is a good GMC dealer in the area in case I need service when I visit him this summer.
Thanks.
CRICKEYDOG 02-18-2006, 05:07 PM Hey Crickeydog,
My son lives in Marietta and I want to make sure I know where there is a good GMC dealer in the area in case I need service when I visit him this summer.Thanks.
We bought from "Hardy Pontiac/Buick/GMC" in Dallas, Ga. about 10 miles due west of beautiful downtown Marietta. Ask for "Dwayne" who is a top notch service writer or "Charlie" the service manager. Their head diesel mechanic is "Mike". They'll take care of you. It's a small town dealer and they treat you like family. There are two other much larger GMC dealers closer to Marietta, Carl Black Pontiac/Buick/GMC in Kennesaw, Ga. & Marietta Pontiac/Buick/GMC in Marietta. However, I only shopped Carl Black GMC & Marietta GMC and I know nothing of their service departments. Be sure to let us know when you're in town if you're into camping. We'll probably already be out with "The Prez" & "The Silver Fox"; come on along.

That's "GREAT". Tell her; "Future visits will be for NORMAL service. only." ):h
I'm glad you've had a good experience with your service guy.
The first leak was from a gasket where the oil filter assembly unit mates to the LBZ motor. The oil filter assembly had been machined improperly and did not seat properly when installed against the motor.
This one puzzles me though. Was the "Block" not machined, or the "Filter Assembly"? And... Did they give you a new assembly, or just "Thicken the Gasket"??
To me, "Done Correctly" would be to "Re-Machine" or "Replace" the machined part... :exactly:
You, Sir, deserve the job "Done Correctly" so that you have no "Future" problems... :Nothing_f
Good Luck, and I'm glad she's home and you're happy...

The engine block is fine. It was the "oil filter assembly" that was milled or machined improperly out of spec. It was replaced and of course new gaskets installed. And we've alread told "The Silver Fox" that any more trips to the "diesel vet" will be for routine checkups only.:D I told her she's been lazing around too long. It's time to get tuggin!!!

Big Jack 02-18-2006, 05:37 PM She Loves To Go To The Races Also But She Wanted To Go Tropical So Now I Have To Drive To Jamacia. Anyone Know A Good Road?
Glad you got the Silver Fox Back. I am sure she looks forward to going to Bristol next month. :)

Hardy Pontiac/Buick/GMC
- Aren't they located on Macland Rd and Marietta Hwy in Dallas? Don't they also have a Chevy store there?
Looks like that's only about 30 minutes away from where my son lives.
According to GM Buypower they have several LBZ's on their lot.
I will keep this dealer's name handy when we go down to Marietta.
I'll give you a shout when we go there.
CRICKEYDOG 02-19-2006, 08:58 AM Thanks Crickeydog.

Oh Oh!!!! Holy Smokes!!! I didn't know there was another "Silver Fox" here on the forum. Hmmmmmmmmmm. I think a new thread is needed here to clarify a potential identity crisis. I see territory ahead I'm not familiar with and I don't want to circumvent proper ettiquete & protocol. Thanks "Kimosaabe" for bringing this possible copyright infringement violation to my attention.
Details to follow!!!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Not sure about that number "2" thing. Not my personality style. My philosophy usually is: If we ain't in the lead? Put me in coach! Translation. Number 2 is great if you're a better follower than leader. But I like being the lead pull dog when something's gotta get done. Hmmmmmmmmmm . Let me think about this number "2" thing a little.
Thanks.
