: Turbo cool-off period?

I have read (eons ago) of the necessity of letting a turbo equipped engine idle for a few minutes before shutting down after a hard run in order to give the turbo a chance to cool off. Not doing so supposedly cooked the lube in the bearings resulting in a shortened life.

Does anybody know if this applies at all to the Duramax?

Thanks.

I have had a few turbo cars. My Nissan 280ZXT could be run so hard that the turbo and the header would glow red. I have tried to work my dmax as hard but by the time I slow down for the 1/4 drive @25 in the neighborhood the turbo is alwasy pretty cool. The Nissan on the other hand would be glowing in the drive way for sometime. Seems to me that the EGT's on a diesel just don't get as hot or that under idel they cool down much quicker than a gasoline vehicle.

OOPS!

I just read further down the list and found the "Turbo Timer" topic.
