Has anybody put a factory style sun roof in their crew cab? My truck is scheduled to get one the second week of april. I figure if they can do it in a suburban/tahoe/yukon/escalade they can do it in a crew cab. Any thoughts?

I've been in new car sales for the past 3 years or so and had sunroofs put on MANY cars. It's not that big a deal. I've been toying around with the idea myself. Just make sure you go with someone whos been around a long time and does LOTS of roofs. Most proven companies will offer a lifetime warranty on their work...I would suggest that. Most aftermarket roofs will come with one touch open and auto close upon shutting off vehicle which most factory roofs don't (although one touch open is becoming more popular) and factory roofs are only covered until the bumper to bumper runs out. Just some advantages to aftermarket. Just like with bedliners, or any type of service for that matter...It often comes down to who is doing the work...which you don't have control over most often. You could try to lobby for their best installer...assuming that person just has done more roofs...because it's really not that difficult.

I am looking at Roman Chariot in Cleveland/Akron do the work, they specialize in fake convertible tops and sunroofs and have been doing them for 30 plus years. They use asi sunroofs, (formerly asc) which are or were used by gm in many of their cars.

too bad you couldn't wait until 05! I have seen some good installs here though.

Personally I could not have one in my truck due to the loss in seated height (i'm 6'6"...). They are a really cool deal though when you can fit me in.

I was intersted in one, as well. I would be happy with the pop up kind. I used to have one like that in an old pick up I had. I could easily remove the glass when ever I wanted. I wonder if they can do it in an extended cab model?

Max, thanks for the link to jason's pictures. They did a great job. I have picked up a sunroof console from a salvage yard, I hope my installer can make it work.

That looks like a Webasto moon roof in those pics.

I bought my girlfirend a moon roof for xmas in her Saturn... under 1200.00 bucks. It looks mint...they rework your headliner to fit the glass under the roof and between the headliner. Besides the controller it looks completely stock.

3yr 36K warranty on parts and labor. Lifetime warranty on parts.

Unfortunately I have a Lund visor on my truck so I cant get a big ol' one, But its going to get done this year.

Its alot easier to throw out your beer cans and middle fingers too. Kidding...

Hey you beat me to it, (Wife has digital camera and out of town) The only difference with mine is I have the controls mounted up by the sunglass holder/ light deal.

I think I like where they put your mount better. Mine works like a Factory unit, also I added the wind deflector to cut the Droan I was hearing at certain speeds, kinda of made my ears feel like popping.

Don't try and open a sunroof in below freezing temps, thought I broke the darn thing in Yosemite, wanted to take a picture out the sunroof, pushed the button and it made all kinds of wierd soundshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif, never openedbut tried it again after I got back, and it works fine.

How much head room do you lose with a power moon roof? I never thought about it, but guess you would lose some. Have one in my Grand Cherokee from the factory but don't think there is any difference with or without the option in head room.

Is $1200 the average going cost for one?

Sounds like the noise was fairly annoying when open at certain speeds. I am guessing that it is quiet when completely closed?

I didn't notice any difference in headroom, With the wind deflector I don't have that Droan sound at certain speeds,

All and all pretty happy with it,http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif $1,200 sounds about right, but I have heard you might pay less if you pay cash.

Some styles lose a ton of headroom ~2-3", while others you would never know the difference. I would have to sit in one to see if there was a difference for me. I hate being crowded...

The $1200 price seems good seeing that most factory option packages run around that. This looks like a great setup though.

Damn Max....thats COOL!!! Who, what and where did you get that roof? *L* Hey...get ahold of Zeeb and tell him where you got the Homelink console...he's searching for one.

zsqure

Homelink console: Stealer sells them, JP customs might even have them, try E-Bay, Make a trip to a salvage yard like I did and pick up one for $20.00 lights and homelink included. A little scratched but you should see the rest of the car it came out of.
