: Possibly a new extendable towing mirror???
Goin Camping 03-20-2004, 11:00 PM Anyony know anything about these?
I saw these while looking thru a magazine called "Specialty Automotive Magazine" at the Line-X dealer last week. It was the Sept/Oct 2003 edition.
Going to http://www.rpminnovations.com/ I find no reference to these mirrors. From the Vision View site I am wondering if they are the parent company of Cipa or if they are just a distributor for Cipa mirrors.
Sometime last summer on one of the forums I was reading, I remember a reply in one of the threads where someone was claiming to be a distributor for Cipa mirrors. He made mention to a new upcoming Cipa towing mirror that closely resembles the Furd towing mirrors. Never saw anything more about it, until possibly now.

What does it say under the Mirror Mirror at the bottom of that ad?
They look very promising.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
The link you gave has nothing to do with mirrors.
Onedit: the ph# on that ad is the # to CIPAEdited by: WanaDmxsub
Goin Camping 03-21-2004, 12:50 AM WanaDmxsub,
Thanks on the link error, I corrected it.
Under Mirror Mirror it says "Towing Mirrors"
Ref: the phone number, Yea I too had found it on the Cipa site.
I want to get rid of these GM power extend tow mirrors real bad. They don't extend quite far enough to see around my trailer. I am annoyed by the fact that they don't stick out perpendicular to the vehicle, they angle back and the glass surface must be 8"-10" behind the leading edge of the windows. This causes me to need to turn my head excessively to look in the mirrors rather than a quick glance of the eyes to check the mirrors. I'll wind up buying a set of TTT mirrors if I can't find anything better, even though I don't like the looks of em.
WanaDmxsub 03-21-2004, 01:12 AM Here is the link I found but it's just a "mirror" http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif of your link.
http://www.VisionViewMirrors.com
I agree, the stock extending mirrors suck. I have a set of these so that I can cover the blind spots, but I can't see down the PS of the trailer or if any one is behind me.

krash610 03-21-2004, 01:58 AM I think this is what you're looking for.
found it on the web.

Camstyn 03-21-2004, 03:39 AM IMHO those look way better than the TTT mirrors, I wish they'd been available before I bought mine..
Road Boss 03-21-2004, 09:19 PM Those look like the mirrors on the Superduties.
Camstyn 03-22-2004, 12:29 AM Indeed, they look identical to me. I've always liked the Ford towing mirrors.
Goin Camping 03-22-2004, 12:10 PM I called the number (888-776-6758) and got some more info on these mirrors. Here's the story.
They have been advertising them for several months, but they are just now becoming available. They will be available for many GM, Ford, and Dodge applications.
They come in 3 models:
Manual - Currently priced at $299 w/ free shipping. This model is currently available for new style GM trucks.
Basic - Includes Electric control and Heat. $349 w/ free shipping. Should be available for new style GM trucks in 60 days.
Deluxe - Electric, Heat, optional chrome cover included, and integrated turn signal. $399 These should also be available for new style GM trucks in 60 days.
She is sending me more info and pictures. Will update when/if I get more info.
Camstyn 03-22-2004, 12:47 PM I'm curious, it says it comes with a "reflector" and an optional turn signal. I wonder if it has the marker light on the front outside edge like the TTT or Ford mirrors have, or just a reflector in its place.
nassdmax 03-25-2004, 12:55 PM I just called them and they are located in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. They will be putting out the deluxe mirror that has the turn signal in a couple of months. Right now they are only reflectors though. The light/signal would be cool, but its another 50 smackers!
I am going to check these mirrors out this afternoon and maybe have to pick up a set. Need to do a trial evaluation for you all!!!
nassdmax 03-25-2004, 01:01 PM here's the actual site for these mirrors...

Goin Camping 03-25-2004, 01:39 PM nassdmax,
I'd be interested in how far out these can extend. The GM power extenders don't go out far enough. The TTT's go out far enough, but I like the shape of these better.
There is a 5" convex mirror available for the Ford Factory extenders http://www.qwks.com/xcart/catalog/CBetr_Mirror_Set_p_3.html. I'd be interested in adapting these to fit this new product.
Yea, I like big mirrors.
Give us a good review...
Camstyn 03-25-2004, 01:51 PM WTF, the deluxe is only good for '02 and older trucks?
03BlueHD 03-25-2004, 02:00 PM Indeed, they look identical to me. I've always liked the Ford towing mirrors.
Close, but not exact. I plow with a F550 with the towing mirrors. They are definately nicer than my stock mirrors on my '03. I would be very interested in getting a set of these.
If anyone tries then let us know.
Thanks
bbradow 03-25-2004, 05:10 PM I just called the company and they said that if I have manual towing mirrors from Chev these mirrors will not work. She said they only work if you have the small no-towing mirrors. What is with that I "think" they are the same mount, but maybe not.
nassdmax 03-26-2004, 08:23 AM They said that there is a wiring changer to the 03 wiring scheme... They also said they will be fixing that up and get the 03-06 lineup covered...
check out this for specs...
http://www.visionviewmirrors.com/comparison_chart_extendable_replacement_mirrors.ht m
It looks like the mirror head would start ~17" from the truck. WAAAYYY more than the stockers.
BTW, I do not work for this company nor am benefitting from this discussion. I am just really interested in getting a set of good mirrors.
Later, MN.

speedracer 03-30-2004, 08:54 PM I originally loved the 03 factory extendable tow mirrors, but after about 30,000 miles, they seem to vibrate alot, at higher speeds.
Its kind of an expensive upgrade to buy aftermarket mirrors, but if the new shocks don't help with this, and if I got some extra $$ burning a hole in my pocket (I wish) I just might change. I have always liked the ford mirrors, and I have also seen alot of the TTT mirrors recently, They look pretty cool.
Lawnboy 03-31-2004, 12:31 AM Make the fronts have marker lights, and add a downward shining "puddle" light and they'd be perfect.
The LED turn signals in mirrors is cool stuff!
GM needs to get with the program on TOWING mirrors. Give the engineering job to a full time camper or hauler that has to look around a 102" wide trailer every day. Not some fresh out of college geek. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

03BlueHD 04-20-2004, 04:11 PM Any new info on these?
gowings 04-22-2004, 11:06 AM Has anyone ordered or installed a set of these. I'm interested in your opinion and how the install went with the turn signal on the deluxe set. They look awesome and look close to the original OEM set. With towing a 28ft 5th, the add on mirrors I use don't cut it and the turn signals would be sweet.
I installed a set of the "regular" extendable towing mirrors on my dually. I didnt have the factory extendable mirrors to start with, just power adj.
They work great. Been on since I bought the truck, no problems with vibration or anything else. Give good visibility when towing my 24' enclosed trailer. Power in and out would be nice though.
nassdmax 05-03-2004, 02:52 PM I decided that after hauling my new 30' TT back from Georgia, that the power extension camper mirrors are not fitting the bill. I gave these guys a call to get a set, but they are on backorder for a few weeks. I will stop in sometime though and take a real good look at them.
I asked about the extension from the truck and was told that they were ~22" from the mirror mount, and they do stick out almost perpendicular to the truck. That is going to be a great improvement, because the GM Campers are only ~17" out if measured perpendicular. Tony, can you confirm the total overall width of your vehicle at the mirror tips with them extended?? I don't know about the measurements...
I have been mocking this up to see how this will work out, and I think this will do. When they are available, I will be sure and do a thourough test with the TT hooked and driving down the freeway in rush hour. Truly the best test for the mirror!
I am sure that more information is to follow. Later.
DRBEAR 05-14-2004, 03:04 PM I called the 800 number and talked to customer service about ordering these mirrors. The power/heated mirrors were backordered for 30 days. Anyone know where to get a set sooner? She said they also sold the CIPA's but they were more expensive, and I like the look of these better.
Thanks.
SaguaroKid 05-22-2004, 05:34 AM I got the TTT mirrors, I like them O.K. But, I broke one backing out of the garage and they won't sell a single mirror, just sets of two. I have e-mailed them repeatedly, haven't gotten any replies. They are made in Australia. So I e-mailed the parent company (down-under), waiting for a reply from them.I'm really torqued.
I'm so upset, I haven't been regular for three weeks now. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

DRBEAR 05-30-2004, 01:01 PM I have called the sales line every week for a month...Each time I get a new "backordered till" date. Last month it was 60 days, then it was 30 days, then 3 weeks, now it's 4 weeks again. I don't think they are even making these things yet. I sure wanted a set before vacation in the middle of June, but don't look like it's going to happen. Edited by: DRBEAR
kjo43 06-10-2004, 12:45 PM checked the website today and the deluxe is up to $425 + shipping and you still can't click to order.
It did let me put the heated/electric's in shopping cart for $375 + shipping, but If I bought them I would want the deluxe for $50 more.
Corndog 06-10-2004, 07:59 PM I had called about the deluxe mirrors a couple months ago, and told them to put me on the list when availlable. I received a phone call from them yesterday. The deluxe are now ready for shipping. The lady that called said they would be shipped today.
$425 + $7.95 shipping
Goin Camping 06-10-2004, 11:37 PM Corndog,
Glad to here these are finally available.
Hope you can give us all some feedback on what they're like and pictures, lots of pictures.

dslhead 06-11-2004, 01:56 PM I have a set on mine (93 GMC). They are nice, really extend out a long way, dont seem to shake much.
One issue is the passenger side main mirror is flat not convex, so when not towing they arent the greatest for driving around town. The convex mirror is small so its OK drivers side but small on the passenger side IMHO (may just take some getting used to, only had them a couple of days).
Second issue and its an install issue, the passenger side mirror mounts at an angle thats close to 90 degrees from the truck, so when you angle the flat mirror to see down the side of the truck, part of the flat mirror is hidden by the body of the mirror, which cuts down your available view. Apparently this can be fixed by adding a washer to the front mounting bolt to increase the mirror to body mounting angle, havent tried it yet.
I emailed a couple of times re the convex main mirror on the passenger side, and although they arent doing it, they were very responsive, and were very good to deal with on the phone when ordering.
anyone have pics of these on there truck
Corndog 06-15-2004, 02:10 PM Well I have Installed the new Mirrors. Beware there web site advertisment shows the deluxe model with light and turn signal, but its either or one light you can use for one or the other not both. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/F3D_Mirrors-Frt.jpg
nassdmax 06-16-2004, 08:00 AM Hey corn,
Are those extended out? If so, could you possibly take a measurement across the truck from mirror tip to mirror tip (or even better would be mirror glass to mirror glass)? I am looking at these for myself, but wondering what the actual viewable would be.
Not that you have them on, what do you think? Good product?
Thanks in advance... Looks good from what I see in your pic.
dslhead 06-16-2004, 12:26 PM those are not extended out...they go out about another 3-4 inches each side.
Corn, do you have the passenger one angled back more than standard?
Corndog 06-16-2004, 01:09 PM nassdmax: Not that you have them on, what do you think? Good product?
They seem to be good quality and very solid. The passenger side glass needs to be wide angle or me getting use to them. Sticking out farther from the truck makes it seem like I'm driving my old mack instead of a pickup, but you can see pretty good with them.
dslhead: Corn, do you have the passenger one angled back more than standard?
Yea it is angled back just slightly because they glass will not turn in toward the truck far enough to see down the side of the truck.
Hope this helps some.
Corndog
dslhead 06-16-2004, 01:18 PM thanks corn, thought they looked angled. I agree, too much tunnel vision! Did you just push the passenger side back, or are they permanently mounted that way?
Was thinking the Fords have similar shaped mirrors: anyone know if their passenger side main mirror is a wide angle view?
Well, I guess my taste's differ- I don't care for the looks of those at all. I think GM designs their mirrors to look somewhat streamlined and as unobtrusive as possible, unlike the ugly elephant mirrors on the Fords. Most of us use our trucks for everything including daily driving and towing so the mirrors are built to try to somewhat fit the bill for all occasions. As much as I hate to say--- Dodge seems to have done the best job here with their swing up mirrors that don't look too bad folded down and are out and in the right position for trailering when flipped up!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif I wonder why some aftermarket outfit doesn't reproduce something like that and leave the ugly Ford style to Ford?
jcummins 06-17-2004, 11:39 AM Army - I agree. The Dodge 'appears' to have a very good solution, However.....do any of these be it aftermarket, Ford, or Dodge....are they really free of vibration at full extension?
I don't know about the aftermarket or the dodge, but I have a buddy with an 03 Ford and when I've driven it they did seem very stable. They were sure a nuisance in the city however and that was when they were retracted. My extendable mirrors on my truck vibrate slightly when extended but I can see around my 5vr with boat behind adequately. I think if I felt I needed more vision when towing I'd just add a camera.By the looks of these aftermarket mirror prices, it would be cheaper.
pepperidge 06-17-2004, 01:08 PM These would look better w/out the chrome covers and tucked in when not in use.

If they tuck in almost that far, that would be good enough for me. - the chrome covers
I bet you could shave 2" off the inner and outer sleeve to have them 2" closer to the truck but would lose 4" total extension, Kind of defeats the purpose. I'll be buying an 8.5 wide featherlite ina few mos. and I'm debating on the lucerix or these,
CornDog: Could we geta pic of them all the way in please?
Edited by: pepperidge
Camstyn 06-18-2004, 02:04 PM I like the looks of the mirrors, always been a fan of the Ford SD mirrors. Those stick out way too far though for being UNextended in my personal opinion. I bet they work real slick for pulling the trailer though, VERY wide!
I'd tear one off on a tree. I find my TTT mirrors already stick out farther than I like when off-roading.
pepperidge 06-18-2004, 02:42 PM The angular looks of the TTT's ruled them out for me
Pepperidge
DRBEAR 06-18-2004, 10:41 PM I just put a set of these on my truck. If you have 8 foot garage doors, you don't need these--they measure 102" from tip to tip pushed in all the way. I have 10 foot doors and they are kind of cumbersome to drive in and back out of with even that wide of an opening. I am going to be pulling my 5th wheel for the next month, and will be able to give a full report next month. I kept my old mirrors and it was so easy to swap these out that I might just change them out when needed.
As far as installation, the wiring diagram is a little misleading. The wires on the driver side match the instructions, but the wire colors on the passenger side are different. If you wire the drivers side first, and then match the passenger side exactly the same they work perfectly. The tech support person wasn't much help, but he tried hard with the materials he had to work with.
Overall, I am pleased so far with the quality and fit of these mirrors, but would have liked them to be a little narrower.
Savvy up 06-19-2004, 06:02 PM Corndog, Those mirrors look great. I got to get those for my new dully.
WanaDmxsub 06-20-2004, 01:30 AM Do they power extend?
nassdmax 06-21-2004, 01:58 PM DO either of you know what the overall extended width is? I know the total mirror to mirror would be wider than the actual glass, so that measurement would be great too.
We all need something wider to get around these big trailers.
TIA.
Corndog 06-22-2004, 09:56 PM Hi all been gone for few days.
WanaDmxsub: Manual Extend
nassdmax: Best I could measure by my self was around 109" total. probably 2" less to edges of glass.
Here's a picture of them extended.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/86C_DSCN0350.jpg
Savvy up 06-23-2004, 10:29 AM WOW that looks sweet. I like those. I don’t care what people say they look great to me.
baimpala 07-11-2004, 11:37 PM Now that I see them on the truck, I don't really care for the looks. I actually like the way the F*RD ones look, but Camstyn hit it on the head, seems like they are ungainly out that far unextended.

DRBEAR 07-20-2004, 11:55 PM Well, after a month of towing with these mirrors on my truck I have a few impressions to share:
When they are extended, they are really wide. I started out towing with them all the way out, and after about 50 miles of driving on a narrow, crooked road with narrow bridges and lots of traffic, I pulled them back in all the way. Pretty nerve racking meeting traffic on a narrow bridge in the extended position. Even retracted they are still wider than the stock mirrors and work well in that position. On interstates I extended them out about 2 inches.
I have never been able to fold them in toward the truck. I have pushed them very hard and it seems that they are about to cave in the doors, but no fold.
They are very solid and vibrate very little on the road.
I noticed no noise from these mirrors even at 75 to 80 mph.
Overall, I am pleased with their function, but will probably box them up to be used solely for towing. It only takes a few minutes to change them out, and sure makes getting into the garage easier!
bigdog 08-03-2004, 07:04 AM I like their looks too. I wish TTT would make their Ford mirrors for the GM as well instead of the one they currently offer. It says you can get different covers so I assume you can pop a black one on there.
I'm not sure I like the idea of the passenger side not being convex, are all the towing mirrors like this or just theirs?
I'm also a little confused about that light thing saying only one will go on, can you elaborate a little on that?
ThanksEdited by: bigdog
rocksam 08-24-2004, 11:57 PM just put a set of these on am kinda disappointed. they are too small and the passenger side should be convex as said. if they are going to copy the ford mirrors they should get the size rite. i love the mirrors on my brothers sd. to give them a little credit they are a lot better than the stock ones but i didn't have the towing mirrors.
somekevinguy 08-25-2004, 03:37 PM Why do you need wide mirrors? When I am towing my TT I just change lanes when ever I want and everyone else gets out of the way. I have the stock power extending mirrors and they work real good for bumber to bumper traffic and someone on a motorcycle comes up to lane split. I ride a motorcycle and have bumped mirrors a couple of times.
Derek M 06-04-2005, 09:29 AM Post back from the dead....
Corndawg stated on post#38 Well I have Installed the new Mirrors. Beware there web site advertisment shows the deluxe model with light and turn signal, but its either or one light you can use for one or the other not both.
To be clear does this mean the mirror's light function can act as a marker light or turn signal but not both at the same time?
