Greetings all!
I was picking up a filter for the allison on my truck, and the parts guy said that chevrolet recommends that the internal filter should be changed at the same time as the spin on. This seems a little drastic to me, or is it true?

He is incorrect ..change the spin on filter only.. Dont forget to get the magnet off your old filter.

The internal filter is recommended to be changed only during a rebuild.

They are right on, as the "internal filter" is actually just a metal screened pickup.

The owners manual does NOT recommend changing the internal filter.

Thank you, I thought that his advice was incorrect. He says that he got this information from the local chevrolet dealership/repair facility. I won't go any farther than the spin on filter, and thanks for reminding me about the magnet!
