I will hopefull get a hold of a guy this week or next with a truck that has a 6.2 with about 150,000 miles and a th400 tranny. Its been sitting since spring so I think he will come down on the price. Im told that you should check for blow by so what is a good way to do this?

Pull oil fill cap from valve cover, watch for excess smoke coming out while the engine is running. A very little bit may be visible and will be fine, much more than a faint "fog" means you have some blowby.
