: What grease should I get?

I saw a post a while back regarding what type of grease to use for lubing our trucks, but came up empty on my searches, so here's the question again.

What type/brand is best to use?

Should I use a full synthetic?

I just bought a new Wally-World special gun, and a Sears adjustable angle tip. Hopefully that will allow me to get to all of the zerks...once I find them that is.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Thanks all!

Hey fireman,

Was it this one http://schaefferoil.com/ ? Just do a search, it'll come up. From what I hear they have good stuff. Dmaxallitech has switched to using this stuff on all lubes at his work. Hope it helps.

Hey Fireman,

I use Mobil 1 full synth chasis lube. It seems expensive until you figure that 1 tube will last more than a couple years. Unless you're grease happy with the zerks, it will last quite a while.

I know there is a thread that shows all 11 zerks.

Being a industrial mechanic supervisor, i have a whole drawer full of different types of zerks in different sizes. If I find one that I don't like the angle of it, out it goes and I'll put a 90 or 45 in.

I use schaeffers in all my stuff now... I seen it compared to Mobil 1 and all the big name greases right in my hand... I am a believer

Eric's choice is another good one.

Eric, I think I'll get some from you to try that stuff out. I'm sure I could get it closer but you need to build your business. I support these boneheads around here enough already. I try to spread the wealth out. Get your store up man! There's a dual alternator kit with my name on it. (Next year's or this Christmas) http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I think I'll try some of Eric's stuff too. I can wait till he get's the store up and running. There's plenty to keep me busy in the mean time!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Which Schaeffer's grease are you using? I looked at their site and felt like a mosquito in a nudist colony; I don't know where to start.

Dick, the 274 grease is what is the most common for chassis grease. At least thats what I am using/selling.

I have used the M1 grease for about 5years now on all my stuff with good reasults, and this includes a 4 wheeler (lots of mud) and the trailer bearings on my boat (yes, it seems to be working well as a marine grease).

redneck45. I have a proposal for you, if your interested in comparing your Mobil 1 grease with the 274 Schaeffers. You may be suprised at the results, I know I was

Mobil 1 is an excellent grease and more than adequate for suns pension parts. If you want to test your grease, put some on the ball of your goose neck hitch assembly. Many years ago I was a front end mechanic. 99% of worn out parts were dry or contaminated from water and grit. This was the direct result of the kid in the service department blowing out the boots with his high pressure grease gun. Later! Frank

Redneck, I am going to send you a tube of grease. I want you to let us know your likes/dislikes on it. Be honest, you dont have to lean either way. I will include some 'tests' you can perform with the two
