Tomorrow, Monday, I hope to go test drive a 99' 4x4 TD Suburban. Its a basic all stock model with power locks, front and rear A/C, 3.73 gears and F in the VIN. It has around 92000 miles with 6000 on a rebuild, bad oil pump caused the rebuild. I have read lots of information on what to look for but I still have a couple of questions? I'm a newbie to diesels. If I buy this will be my first diesel. :)

At WOT what should I watch for? Lots of smoke? Hard shifts?
Do diesels shift like gassers?
Like gassers, will the computer protect the motor from over reving, auto trans? (dumb question)

Anything else???

Thanks Friends

Fuel pump should limit the RPM's to around 4000, but I wouldn't try to turn that many. Should drive and shift kind of like your use to, inless there be some work done to the tranny. You should see very little smoke as long as everything is working correctly. Hope that answer most your question plus what you have read here. Good Luck
