4 million trucks

Story (http://money.cnn.com/2004/03/18/pf/autos/gm_recall/index.htm?cnn=yes)

The replacement will still be cables, but of stainless steel.

I prefer my VR Straps any day of the week. I don't think stainless cables will be stronger and in some cases stainless is weaker. It just won't corrode.Edited by: hoot

Wonder if we can tell them to keep the straps, but give us the cash equivalent?

Wait till the TSB is released and when your in for regular service and the drop the tailgate and see the VR Straps .... *Eyes Popping *

You know some will remove and put the all the non-corrosive but still inferior cables on ...*Eyes Popping * *Eyes Popping *

Hoot you scared me, I thought that the VR stainless straps had been recalledhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Just so GM don`t get to pocket a few extra bucks on my acount, I will be picking up one set of stainless cables from them once they have them in stock.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Great leave it to GM to steal 4 million customers from me http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

Anyhow I'm glad they're finally doing something albeit I have my doubts as to how much stainless cable will like repeat bending.

Looks like I may get some of my life back, or just have to find a new hobby.

A knock on the door asking "Can you give me a bid on 4 Million sets?" would have been nice!

Would you know it...

I took my truck in this morning to get the replacements and GM hadn't sent the dealers the recall notice as of 9am 3/19. The service rep hadn't even heard the news and the service manager just heard it on the local tv station. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

They said they couldn't replace them until it showed up in their computer system. I wasn't happy with that answer since I can't use my tailgate right now, so I got back and called the gm 1800 number and talked to someone that said the dealers were suppose to replace them, for free, even before the recall and he was going to call the service manager and give him that information.

Must take a while for dealers to get information from the top.

Not only that I wouldn't expect these replacements for quite a while. Although making cables is pretty easy, how long do you think it'll take to make approx 4 million of them, notify customers, get them to dealers, yada yada. I wouldn't be suprised if some of us were waiting 6 months to get notice.

I think it will be closer to 8 million. Being 4 million trucks times two per truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Or are you expecting to take up the slack?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif I have two of themhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Well if I made 8 million sets I don't think I could get them out any sooner than GM. Than again with an order like that I'd probably be able to retire after getting them all out the door. Unfortunately GM has contacted me yet so I'll have to my day job for a while yet.

Funny you should say that, because I'm gonna do the exact same thing! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to go pick up the freebie's or not. I guess I will, maybe I'll find some use for 16" of stainless cord someday. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
