Yeah, there's no denying that the old black NSBU switches were junk. But you shouldn't have the same problem with the tan switch.
Do the dealers stock the new NSBU switch? Some of my gear selector lights don't light up, and after reading through a couple threads, sounds like it's the switch. Where is it, and what's the details for the install? Thanks!

Ryno,
If your truck is still under the emission warranty (100k if I remember right) you can have the dealership do it for free. If you want to do it yourself your best option is to buy it at a Detroit Diesel-Allison distributor (you can get locations from the Allison Transmission web site) as it will be cheaper. While there ask for the Service Information Letter 32-1K2K-01, which has the installation instructions.
Good luck!

I saved like a $100 from what the dealer was going to charge me.
hardest part was crawling under the truck.
I talked to the dealer today. I have an 8.1, I'm SOL with 60k on my 02. I did go to Allison for the switch...ALOT cheaper. I'm doing it tomorrow, looks pretty simple. Any tips/ tricks?

Don't remeber anything special, make sure you take your time with the plugs. and use dielectric grease...etc. I am sureone else will chime in.
