I've been thinking about this for some time now, I've been wondering why some one doesn't just make a new SMF that will bolt up to the original Pressure plate and clutch that comes with the ZF.instead of having a heavier duty pressure plate, clutch and SMF as one package. some of us aren't building tire smoking monsters and just need a dependable outfit. I've had my DMF replaced (From dealer) and the clutch looked new yet. In fact the last time they just replaced DMF and slave cylinder. Is it because with solid flywheel there would be more stress on remaining components and they wouldn't last. Just wondering?

I think that Deadeye mentioned this once upon a time.

I'm in the same boat. I have Craig's SMF and clutch. One thing I like is that the disc is sprung. Remember that the OE clutch has a solid hub because the springs were in the flywheel.
I'm thinking a solid flywheel matched to the factory clutch disc for the 8.1 V-8. The 8.1 uses the same tranny so the input shaft splines would work. This way you'd have a user friendly disc with dampening springs. Should hold stock power as well as the stock clutch did. But you'd probably have to work out any length differences with the pressure plate depth, etc....

Thanks for the replys guys. I hadn't thought about the stock clutch plate not being sprung. Guess I'll be waiting for SBC to get their SMF SDC kit done and make decision on what to buy then. I got a little time (hopefully) before my DMF goes again. Thanks Again, Jim
