I have a 96 ChevyZ71 4" lift 33" tires, I am have thinking about switching over to a Duramax Diesel as my next truck when I get one . I don't really need a diesel because I dont pull anything over drive for mileage. I mainly would want it to kick my neighbors Cummins butt. He thinks his is all big and bad with the 6" stacks and edge comp box. My one friend has an 02 Cummins and he doesnt need it either but I guess they are nice to have. I love the way a Duramax is quiter than a Powerstroke or Cummins though.

Yes, a duramax with one box, will blow away a 24v cummins with one or even stacked boxes.

How good do they hold up to evrything. Pulling? Could I put a 4" or 5" straight pipe on there and shoot smoke? Allison trannys are really good aren't they, Do they hold up to power mods? I probably wouldnt put 5 grand in mods on it. I'm sure there comfortable because it's a Chevy.

They hold up just like any other. You can get a 4" exhaust or 5" exhaust, it wont blow smoke with just an exhaust, you will have to get a box or programmer to do that. You can add around a 100hp box and the stock tranny will hold decent. Some are running around 135hp programs and are holding it, you would have to watch it some at that level.

Thank's White Duramax. Tell me about yours. All the stuff you have done and how you like it. Got any pics? How much power do you think you have? Any expensive tranny work? With your 4" exhaust does it sound more like a powerstroke then a solid drone like a cummins. There is a guy around where I live that has a white std cab stick shift with a 4 or 5" straight pipe and it doesnt sound to bad. It's definetely as loud as a Cummins.
