: Some Days Fast......Some Days Slow

I have noticed that some days the Duramax is really putting down the power, and other days it feels slow. Some days I can burn the tires through 1st and 2nd, and other days it hooks up everything. I do drive through a lot of rush hour traffic, and the power does seem down after driving really slow through traffic. Power also seems better after a few hard runs. So I guess I was wondering if anyone could explain if the ECM has its own adaptive learn mode, or is it all in the Allison. Or could it be something else altogether. I would hate to get beat by a Dodge or Ford one day just because I had been driving it too easy.Edited by: Amric

From my experience using D maxes (towing big loads and hot rodding my dads ride), I'd say it's the ally, if I drive around DC back home like a sane person, it is laggy but if you run it hard it runs good. My money is on the Allison.

Now there is some interesting info.

So you are saying if we drive hard only in Tow haul, the Allison memory will remember this, and shift differently with Tow haul off. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

This means I don't have to risk speeding all the time.

that's the way I do it too but for some reason I'm in T/H mode most of the timehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

I have the juice set to timing only or the 60hp mode in reg and 145hp in T/H mode. I was never a fan or running a ton of power thru the fluid coupling. Lock it (converter) and rock.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif Edited by: mtomac

Sounds like everyone is in agreement. I didn't know that the Allison maintained 2 separate pressure maps. It does feel much better in T/H. Can't wait until I can get that little blue wire soldered on and really put the tripple lock to work.

What little blue wire are you talking about?? How does it relate to the torque converter?
Thanks Jon

The ATS Co-Pilot has a blue wire in it's harness that you solder onto the back of your instument cluster. It basically takes a signal from the tow/haul circuit and any time you are in tow/haul mode and are exceeding 22 mph it will force torque converter lock up.
