blowin smoke

My trans started making this noise earlier today as I came off of an exit ramp. It was making the noise in 4th and 5th gears only kind off like a wineing. It only has 3,000 miles. Is this normal? Never heard anything like this before.

All I can tell you is that mine has 30,000 miles and it doesn't whine.
Was your clutch pedal hard to depress too? My truck did that eaarly on but doesn't anymore. Only after a long drive on the highway though. These take a while to break in. Even granny low won't be loose until you use it...heh heh granny loose.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Mine used to whine a lot when it was new, my '99 1/2ton with the 5-speed did too. If it's just a gear whine I wouldn't worry about it, once it's more broken in it'll go away. I'm surprised you don't hear it all the time, though. I don't want to ask a stupid question but are you sure this isn't just the first time you've noticed it, possible it's always done this?
My only other suggestion would be to check the oil level in the trans.
