My Dad is looking for a strictly milege improvement for his 02' D-Max and was wondering what would make for the best gains,

Any tow tune.I would say Edge as it is very easy to use and quick to remove.

Very favorable for the Duramax

Edge is good and I would also suggest looking at the van Aaken module. Both are very simple to plug in and add power plus mileage. We sell many of both and our customers seem to like them equally.

My dad sure loves his Diablosport Predator! He tows on the 40hp setting, and drives on the 60hp. He estimates he's gained 2mpg driving.

I have a VA 200 myself and it seems I've lost 3-5mpg since I've been using it :o:.I think I have another problem though but I don't know.

all tuners improve mileage but you have to keep your foot out of it which is almost impossible to do with the extra power

Just set Edge to 1/5 after running 3/5 since installed and RCD lift. With 1/2 tank fuel gone gain 0.5mpg no correction for 35" tires (i.e. not hand calculated). Will check mpg (again uncorrected) with Edge set at 0/5 for comparison on next tank of fuel.

Predator division nitro flash programmer is very economical on the fuel for what i see on my truck. (at least 60 miles more with only a small bed tank of 100 litres of fuel and 33 inch tires).

VA 70-110 flavour here. Hasn't added one bit of mileage whatsoever. Power is there - no further on a tank however:(

I love my VA 200 but I'm about to trade it for something else because it's so hard on fuel :( .I can get just under 24mpg with out it and even if I'm easy on it with the VA turned on I'm only getting like 16-17mpg :( . I need EFI live but I'm not sure I'm capable of it.

You just need to put something under the go peddle so you can't go so fast... I've been averaging 20 MPG on winter fuel, when I first got my truck it did 20 MPG on summer fuel so I have seen no difference other than a possible slight improvment. Try running on the 150 around town it seems to net the best economy for me.

Maybe it's the right foot that's the problem. I like Kill so well because it blows lots of smoke :D and makes people diasppear ):h . I'll be headed to CO on Sat maybe I can leave it on 150 and see how it helps.

Have you downloaded the software from EFILive? If not take a look.

I'll help you with a mileage/tow tune for you and your dad and then you can play with a big tune for yourself.

The Commercial version would allow you and your dad to each have two tunes in each truck. Switch between them on the fly.

$820.00/2= $410.00 each. Plus you get the added feature of scanning, data logging and clearing codes. :D

I have the edge set on 3/5 all the time and am fairly easy on the throttle but my truck has never gotten better than 15mpg since I bought it new, and thats before or after all the mods. Even if I tow my 5th wheel its gets the same. I find it hard to believe that some people are getting 20+ mpg out of one of these things.

What exactly do you guys mean by hand calculated? Does that mean you count every mile that you put on your truck after filling the tank, rather than just go off of the odometer or DIC? If so,..is the odometer that wrong?

Performance programs have a tendency to mess with the DIC calculations because of the modified fuel delivery rates - so yes that's exactly what they mean. The highest I ever got with my truck was 19 mpg - once. My average is between 16 and 17 mpg.

I leave my edge on 0 until the engine temp is up to about 160, then I put it on 3/5. In town no highway get about 15. on highway I get 20 to 21, average 70mph. All hand calculated. I dont have a pre performance mod average because edge was installed 6 hours after i bought the p/u.

no DIC

Do you have to have a laptop for EFI Live?

Yes, right now you do. With the release of EFILive FLashscan V2, no you won't need a laptop. :D

No need to change power levels, the edge doesn't add power until your coolant temp comes up to 150-160 degrees.(Don't remember the exact number)

Yes sir you are right. I have noticed that there is no power increase until engine temp is up. the reason i leave mine on "0" is that I'm not sure if it adjusts the timing or anything else before it warms up. (pretty new to this) Anyway it seems to rattle more on a cold start if it is on anything but "0". Maybe this is just my imagination? (guess I need to read more forums)
