On a 2001 would I have to put on the EGT Sensor? :o:

Where should I buy it from?

Will that help me pull the 15,500 lb beast in my signature? :joke:

Well you wouldn't HAVE to I suppose. The Edge will work w/o it. But if your going to be pulling that much weight (and even if you don't pull anything imo), then yes, definatly put it in to keep an eye on those egt's.

I pull a 13K boat and it does help. I don't go over Level 1 with that much weight. I still have the stock exhaust and my EGT's are around 900-1000 doing 75 on the E-way.

If you are buying the Juice/***. new the thermocoupler is included, otherwise I'm sure Edge could sell you one. Pretty easy to install by taking off right front tire and removing fender liner to access exhaust manifold.

Just reread your post, Kennedy Deisel seems to be as competitive as any, but check through the vendors here.

Is it ok to get the Edge first and then the exhaust later?

Will I see a big difference when I get the Edge and I'm pulling my TH up some of those hills?

What should I buy after I get the Edge? Exhaust or Intake?

I noted a pretty significant difference after installing the J/A. There is one grade that I frequent on the way to the lake. W/O J/A I would be in 3rd gear, 52 mph 3200rpm with J/A in 2 with camper & boat (16,900lbs) I crested in 4th at 62mph and I wasn't floored. I was keeping my egts at 1250. I have no idea what the egts were pre J/A but they must've been scary.

I put the exhaust on first but I can tell you that it made the truck run noticeably better.

I have no idea what to tell you to buy next but I am considering the SCIV
tranny upgrade.........but that opens up an another whole can of worms..

I think you will appreciate the extra power):h

Sweet! I think I will get the Edge first and then go with the Exhaust.

Is the MBRP Turbo back exhaust any good?

Is turbo back the full exhaust system? I'm not sure. Thanks BC

I didn't remove anything when I installed the pyro. I just drilled and tapped from the top as instructed in one of the DYI sections with the engine running. I works great.

"Turbo Back" is the downpipe back, "Cat Back" is from the flange where the cat pipe is back, your truck shouldn't have a cat so either system is fine for you.

So when I get the Edge, should I always run it on a certain level? I plan on hauling in level 2 provided the EGT's allow. Should I just leave it there or use it when I need it?

Should I expect to pay the full $809 for it? I'm guessing eBay is a bad thing for buying this product...

I tow a 11000-14000 LB gooseneck horse trailer (Depending on how many horses I have in it) on level 2 and never have EGT problems. I've read that if you run on the higher levels (4-5) while driveing normally and go to pass while in OD it's easier to limp the tranny than when driveing it hard. I tow in level 2 and drive in level 3 and have never limped my tranny so far. I would look for a reputable Edge dealer to purchase from and make sure you're getting the latest revision. Good Luck

Try John at Diesel Performance Shops 818/786-0126. His prices are very fair...........

Did your fingers get hot? lol

Why keep the engine running?

The theory is that it blows the chips out. My engine was cold and I didn't start it until I was completely ready to drill. A pair of gloves is handy also.

I like the price at DPS. Thanks for the info on that. I'm gonna go with the Turbo Back Exhaust made by MBRP. :rockit:

I called Edge, and he was saying the 2001 has a comp module (I forgot to ask what that meant) but the ratings were:

HP TQ
40 150
60 200
80 250
100 300
120 350

That is really impressive even for level 1 on the TQ. I really want one now. :cool2:

Level 1 would help to get the TH moving. Not to mention level 2, I was thinking about HP only, I forgot all about the TQ. :ro)

One other question about this forum.... Is there a way to take off the helper that tells you what abbreviations mean? Like for example EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>? I find it annoying. Censored

no exhaust systems are turbo back. the factory down pipe has to stay. youll love the edge, stay out of level 4 & 5 with the stock tranny. pretty much the only way to limp the tranny is to let it shift from 4th to 5th under heavy throttle in level 4 or 5. once you use the extra power you will never back it down and it wont hurt to leave it there it actually helps the tranny because it has to learn the new power levels which will make shifts weird until it learns.

I'm just quoting what it says on most exhaust websites. Is this the correct MBRP Exhaust system: S6004AL (http://www.mbrp.com/products.php?S6004AL)

Here is the Description:

Chev/GMC 2500/3500 4" System (incl. Front-Pipe) Off-Road

They sell it at Diesel Performance Shops for $442 with shipping. Is this considered a full exhaust? Does it require welding, or does it come ready to install?

So if I'm in Tow Haul mode I should be safe :) pulling the Toy Hauler. Just have to watch EGT's right?

I can't wait to get the Edge. :nutkick:

[quote=BullydogPowered;920156]no exhaust systems are turbo back.

I got a downpipe from Banks with my exhaust. Everything bolted together perfectly. They would not install the downpipe though, it's against the law:eek: to remove the cat

Its against the law, but all you have to say is you bought it that way. They wont be able to prove or disprove it.

No hot fingers. Used a drill. Engine was cold. Used tap handle. Still no hot fingers. And it does blow the chips out. I don't remember who wrote the article but it was good advice. Sorry I can't give credit where it's due.

I looked in the DIY section but I didn't see the thread for installing the EGT Sensor.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edge reccomends pulling the Attitude and Edge components prior to maintenance by a dealer. Does everyone do this? How much of a pain is it to remove the Attitude and Edge components?

What should I tell them if they see the EGT Sensor? Should I put in another guage so I can see the EGT Temp when the Edge is not hooked up? I dunno :(

if you install using the Edge instructions its not very hard to remove it all.

Just to clarify the origins and credits: this probe location was first employed and is credited to Jim Bigley of the Diesel Page. Hoot, like many others has used and carried forward this method. He was a member there and a member and moderator here and published a very nice instructional guide with pics so it came to be called "The Hoot Method." Props to him for making it accessible, credit where credit is due for its origin.:)

How about instructions on installing the Attitude in the Upper Console? Like routing of cables, any extra's needed and so forth. Maybe step by step would be nice when it comes to removing the upper console.

I'd like to have all this figured out prior to install day. :ro) :ro)

Don't remove the upper console. Just run your wire up the driver side pillar, across the edge of the headliner, remove the one screw in the front of the upper console and drop it down at the windshield. This will allow access into the upper console. I ran the wire for the attitude from the console to the firewall. It's much easier than fishing the attitude under the dash.

He said I will not need the Extension cable. Awesome!!!

Nice guy to work with. I'm glad I called!! I would have ordered something I would have regretted. :grd:

Now all I have to do is wait for the Edge with Juice!

The cable length was perfect without an extension the way I routed mine.
