Does anyone have information about connecting the under dash data port to the USB of a laptop, and using the laptop with software, to read, clear or monitor the readings like is done with a Tech II?

Thx

You mean EFI Live? It does that. Not all the Tech 2 functions, but it can log and clear all dtc's. It is amazing.

I am the forum member he's talking about, Auto Enginuity gets my vote until something else shows to be far better, which right now I doubt. According to louis it stomps Autotap.

Can the autoenginuity do ABS codes read and clear/and cycle the pump?

Just curious?

I don't think so, but louis has been giving them input on some things, and I am fixing to do so as well. Perhaps they can add or improve what they don't know about? They were open to input from louis......

I have the enhanced version yes.

I have the OBD-2 on my laptop. I ordered it a couple of years ago and don't use it now. I have a Genisus. It did work well and gave a wealth of information. Can do almost as much as any full blown scanner maybe more.

Be sure to download the latest version from their site, I think its 4.0.1 now with a january 6th 2006 build date.

Its good to see that there are some others using this software also. So far its really easy to use but if you try to "watch" too many things at once it sure slows down in a hurry. The Speedtracer part i had originally thought would be the neatest tool to play with...........only to find that i was making 210rwhp. Im not positive but i think it was a little off):h Hopefully they can get it to have some trans control functions in the near future.

Unless you want to scan or data log other makes and models, Flashscan by EFILive wins hands down. The ability to reprogram the ECM, switchable tunes, logically switchable output, high speed data logger, calculated PIDs, and excellent customer support are just a few advantages.

Since I will be getting a new truck whenever they come out with the new design in 07 or 08, and I have some thrown off relatives that have Fords, EFILive didn't make sense to me. This thing can read at least the basics of all cars and trucks, and I got enhanced Ford and GM so I am set on those.

I don't doubt EFIlive is top notch for LB7's or LLY's though.

hi, i've got obd-2, this works great, yes it will reset taps,ck balance rates, boost, sees and clears codes[even enhanced powertrain],real time telemitry, and a ton more, for the money its the best ive used[beats snap-off,works as good as tech2]it just takes time to learn how to use it,, talk to alex, tell him fred said to call,,he updates software about every month,it also doues cars from audi to volvos and merc to ford, douse lb7 and lly,and sees allison trans,,you can even use it on your ferrari or lambo,,you can get it to do 06can,douesen't do 2006 lbz yet but he tells me soon

Based upon what I have read here and checking the web sites of the various scan builders, along with price consideration and the fact that I really don't want to screw up any of the OEM programming in my modules, I sprang for the OBD-2. Ordered online on a Sunday, 1/29 and had a package in the mail box on Tuesday, 1/31. I obviously have a lot to learn about the system but have made a test run and logged it. Looks like I can play it back and look at more info than would ever be needed. Some of the accronyms are a little strange. Would be nice to have a translation index.

The site is http://www.obd-2.com/ and they have sample screen shots of various views available. I figure I'll play with it a while and make a list of questions before I call their tech support. So far, I have learned something new every time I load it up. The help file explains a lot. Still working with the only file I've recorded. Neat to see all the parameters fluctuate as load, speed, etc change. You can start, stop, single step through the recording to isolate a particular speed or load condition. Also found a feature the will give you elapsed times between two events. You set a start parameter and value as well as a stop parameter and value. When you make your run, as soon as the start parameter value is met, the clock starts. It stops when the stop parameter value hits. Hope this helps.

Louis Louis & TxChristopher, have you guys been able to determine if AutoEnginuity is able to talk to the 32-bit ECM and TCM in the 2006 LBZ and LLY? can it read codes in them, etc?

Does it need a CANdi module in order to talk to these 32-bit modules?

Thanks

PS: Louis - Hope your eye surgery went well :)

A thumb nail list of features with price would help.
In particular would like to live read injectors.

I had purchased AutoTap with the GM Enhanced parameters and at first it seemed to work well. As I started to log data for the overheating issue I wanted a faster data update then the 1 reading per second that I was getting via Autotap. I tried my setup on a gas engine Surban and I got 20-30 updates per second. I opened a case with Autotap and they said they would look at it because they thought is should be better then that. After a few months I decided to try another product.

I got Auto Enginuity and tried it and now I get ~ 8 readings per second. Auto Enginuity also connects to all of the modules on the truck instead of the ECM only like Autotap. You can view the transmission, BCM, Seat Module, and all of the rest.

I will try to get some lists of the parameters that are available on my truck and post them.

For the 2006 electronics I don't know, the best thing would be to call or email and ask them directly.

Thanks, Louis

Yes, I used the PC version with the enhanced GM parameters. I also have the PDA version since my wife complains about the laptop taking up space logging temp data while on trips. The PDA takes up a lot less space in the truck.
