I'm getting used to all the new sounds "The Silver Fox" makes. My boss has an 06 Chevy D/A LLY and he said his makes the same whine as did his 02 Chevy and after a test ride in "The Silver Fox" today he said the whine sounded normal to him. Does anyone hear a whine coming from the tranny as it's shifting up and down through the gears? It almost sounds like a supercharger whining. It's not obnoxiously loud but it's a sound I'm not accustomed to. Is this sound normal? And it's not the turbocharger as I can hear the turbo over the whine.

when my truck is real cold and i start driving it you can hear this weird whine.
does it go away when it warms up?
also, expect some gear whine when going slow.

Yeah, if you are going slow, like going through a parking lot, you can hear it. You might be able to hear it more with the newer trucks since the engine is so much more quiet. I think they call it the allison whine. Mine has done it since I bought it.

totally normal. I think when I bought mine the dealers actually had a video for new owners to watch. these trannies are noisy because they are stout

Mine does it too, especially when cold, kinda sounds like an old powerglide.

My Powerglide was never this loud :D
Ya, they all do it, but the '06 is so quiet that I think it's more noticeable.

Yeah I've still got the video around here somewhere from when I bought the '03 8.1/A. Noticed the whine in that one alot at low speed. Not real noticable in the '05 D/A.
