$1.67 to $1.77 seems to be the norm here in Frederick, MD

$1.79 at the Hess in Cockeysville, MD

The most I have paid in more then a year was $1.599. (This was in Grand Rapids, Michigan last fall) But it has creaped up to that at the nearest Flying-J truck stop. But with my one cent per gallon savings, I`m saving up for more modshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

But if I wanted the good stuff, I would pay the asking price of a $1.799 at most of the filling stations, or are they service stations?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Then again, I could have kept my last truck with the Hypertech chip and still be paying a buck 99 for EthelEdited by: hdmax

In southern VT/north-central MA, prices have actually dropped about 2 cents in the last week, and are in the $1.75 to $1.83 range. These are smaller stations, not major truck stops. Also, I think the blend is changing to a Spring blend as mileage is improving.

As the heating season ends in areas where heating oil is commonly used, a reduction in prices in Spring is common.

I just filled up at the Flying J in Beaverdam, OH for $1.599 per gallon.

It's interesting to see how many of you guys frequent Flying J truckstops. I know I've always been happy with their fuel, plus their price is usually the best around. You can even check out diesel & gas prices all over the US on their website, flyingj.com . Of course, if everyone does that, we wouldn't have interesting posts like this one, would we? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

deadfurrow, I try to hit a Flying J whenever possible when on the road. No stations local to me here in Ohio. Diesel has been holding at $1.645 here. Funny thing though, there was always a disparity of several cents per gallon among the stations here, but for the last couple of weeks they have all been "uniform" at $1.645!

This is sort of off-topic, but since so many use Flying J fuel, it seems appropriate. I have noticed the last few months the fuel is fluorescent green at the J. I can't say I noticed this the last year or so before last fall, but since everytime I fill it is the same bright, neon color. Does anybody else notice this at other J's or is it an Oklahoma type of thing?

That's why I'm glad to have my aux tank and 400 to 600 miles to "shop" for fuel when the low fuel light comes on!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif I was rolling through North Carolina a year or so ago and most of the big signs along the interstate were listing diesel at something like $1.30. I finally decided to pull off near Lake Norman and fuel up. I rolled into a BP station and actually had the nozzle in the tank (not turned on - thank goodness!) when I looked at the pump and realized they were charging $1.50 for diesel!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif Needless to say - nozzle went back in the pump, cap back on the tank and I left black stripes nearly all the way to the on-ramp!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

I drove to Knoxville, TN & back on friday. Flying J in Walton, KY had diesel for $1.499, Pilot in Heiskell, TN had it for $1.599, & Flying J in Beaverdam, OH was $1.669.

BTW, I used 18.106 gallons between Heiskell & Beaverdam which is 365.24 miles according to my GPS. 20.17 MPGhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif running 73 to 78 MPH (depending on the state I was in), which is my best MPG to date with just over 10,000 miles & 7 weeks old.

Local TV News station did an article on fuel prices. They noted that they are typically highest on Thursday, then trickle down the rest of the week. I have seen prices swing up to 10 cents a gallon thru the week at the same station, though I never tracked which day was the highest. Most tend to follow the same average which is around $1.65 a gallon west of Huntsville, Alabama. Like the rest of the world, some stations around here are posting $1.79 and you don't have to wait in line! I feel a little better when I check the price of regular gasoline and it's 5 cents more!

Cruised past a little place in lower Tennessee that had it for $1.59 on Sunday, too bad I was already full.

These high prices have 'almost' forced me to park the truck and ride the Harley everywhere. Have already leaned it out a lot to get it up to 45 mpg (gotta love that Powercommander!), but it's got no acceleration compared to when it's running right but getting 32mpg!

Where will it end?

RonJT

From March 20 to March 28--fuel where I fill up went up 20 cents! (From 1.76 to 1.96).

Lucky for me--my fuel mileage seems to have improved also--around the 9000 mile mark (@10300 now). My best mileage--all highway @62mph/cruise control--was 23mpg. This is running at sea level relatively flat between Los Angeles and San Diego.

At 90 mph--the MPG's really drophttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif!

Fuel around here is around 1.55 - 1.60 per gallon. Frankly, my truck is almost as economical as my wife's '04 VW Passat, which gets 24MPG but requires 93 octane, which is 1.89/gal. Even my wife would rather drive the truck.

Oh, drove the truck and 4 of my closest friends to the race @ Bristol yesterday. Running late, so hauled up there at 80-90MPH, then stop-go-stop-go at the track. Took backroads home to avoid traffic. Burned about a 1/2 tank of fuel altogether and got 18.9 MPG round-trip (per DIC which I've checked to be spot-on).

That's the hardest I've run the truck speed-wise (in her 6k mile life), so I was quite pleased that the mileage didn't go to crap. I'd reset the DIC pulling out of my driveway and when I got to track, it read 18.2 MPG.

15 days ago--diesel #2 was 1.76 where I fill up--now it is 2.16. I think it was 1.96 last Sunday!

This reminds me of the Power crisis in California--hold back power--prices go up.

The refiners --refine more Gasoline--because it is expensive and in demand--but that causes diesel to go up.....

Station by my house: 2.29 for diesel and 2.19 for regular gas!

I wonder how hard it is to make my own biodiesel.

RonJT,

The situation that always bothers me is the Chevron Stations at Sepulveda / El Segundo Blvd or Sepulveda/Rosecrans in El Segundo, CA. These stations always have high prices. For those not familar with the area, the Chevron refinery is essentially right behind these two stations. Usually 5-8 cents more expensive than in Yorba Linda (40 miles away). Figure that one out!

Alan,

I heard from a former coworker who lives in El Segundo that the high prices are due to inflated city taxes--similar to the outrages head count taxes the city levies on buisnesses.

It seems that the whole refining side of fuel is out of balance in California--for whatever reason(s)--not enough refining capacity--no new ones planned(environmental issues)--plant shutdown/maintenance--summer blends--too many SUV(s) outstripping supply blah blah blah--we are being screwed--plain and simple!

Department of Energy Fuel Survey (http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/gdu/gasdiesel.asp)

I remember seeing an article a few weeks back where one of the refineries was shutting down for an upgrade and shortfall can't be met by refineries from outside CA because refineries outside Cali can't meeting CARB requirements (lower sulfur diesel, etc.)

Jeff,

That kind of makes sense--I heard there was a Shell refinery in Bakersfield (outside LA) that was been shut down--permanently--not sure if there are other refineries down for work/upgrades.

AAA is saying california is not meeting its own needs--need to import from..?

The cali fuel has only 300ppm vs 500ppm sulfur (which further reduces lubricity) which could mean that in order to entice an out of state refiner to sell here--the price has to go up.
