Ford should be taken to court for deceptive advertising and lying. In the new ad about the F**d diesel it starts out talking about a diesel and it tow rating of 14200. They show a CC towing refrigerators with some in the bed. Notice the trailer is hitched to a hitch that is not possibly rated to tow 14,200 and that it is a tongue pull and not a fifth wheel. The max tow rating for a F**D truck of any cab is 14,200, but with a V-10 NOT the 6.0 diesel. The 6.0 liter is only rated for 13,700 towing a fifth wheel. Next mistake is that the tongue pull hitches are rated to a max of 12,000 lbs, unless someone has one I have not been able to find that is rated higher.

The ad tells nothing but lies and gives the public the idea that 14,2000 lbs can be towed on a hitch not rated for it.

By the way, the GM diesel is rated to tow 15,700 lbs with the Duramax. Check Trailer Life magazine web site for the tow capacity charts.

Actually, it's 15,900 for the Duramaxhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif and 16,100 for the Gasser! (2WD Reg. Cab. Long Bed 2500HD). 5th wheel or goose of course.

Look at the hitch it isn't a ball. It a pentle hitch they have much higher capacity. The hitch plate on the back of my truck rated at 30,000 lbs. I'm sure they can have one made for a pickup

My hitch has a rating of 13,600 with vertical load of 2,700

Unless Ford changes the reciever, it doesn`t mater what the pintle hitch is rated at.

just out of curiosity....I know there is a suggested "max tow rating" is that just for the over-cautious lawyers that watch this kind of stuff for liability reasons or if let's say my trucks rated at 15,700...could I load up maybe 16 thou-no let's make in 17k and be just fine? Reason asking is I'm not an experienced tower and have a BIG OLE trailer to move from Orlando to Miami and I'm very sure it's (with our calculations) about a grand over my max of 12,000lb. Thanks for any info.....Mark

You can order a F350 with a 15k hitch.

I just got an education on the tongue pull hitch. Draw Tite now has a Class IV hitch that is rated for 14,000 lbs with equalizer system. They have it for GM and F**d. Didn't check D***e but expect they have it also. I guess the hitch makers finally decided to make a hitch that is compatable with the new trucks tow ratings. F**d trucks are still not rated to tow the hitch capacity of 14,000. I just looked at their website on the specs and am amazed at the low ratings for their trucks and especially the diesel.

Just because draw tight doesn't make a hitch, doesn't mean you can't get ones with higher rating the hitches on my trucks are bolted and welded right into the the truck frame and are made out of heavyer steel then the truck frame. Go to truck body company the build you any thing you want.

After the locking pin hole in our 3500's OEM reciever became elongated (shaped much like a football) I replaced it with a Reese Titan V. Talk about a heavy duty receiver ! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif !

Not telling you to do it, or that's it's OK, but I pull 20,000 lbs. of backhoe and trailer on a pintle hook ocassionally. Have been for three years now. Just be aware it's back there, be cautious, understand you have no business in the hammer lane etc. and I'm sure you'll be fine. IMHO the towing limit of these trucks has more to do with the loose nut behind the wheel than the truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

I would guess the limiting factor on the new pickups for towing would be grade braking.

If you are running on mostly flatlands, you should be safe at a few thousand lbs over. But I would be reluctant to try it on a 7% downhill.

I have pulled between 18k and 20k a few times.

I've got a class 5 Draw Tite hitch on my new truck, and let me tell you, it is way beefier than the OEM hitch. Its all 1/4 inch steel with rolled edges for extra strength, plate steel welded above and below the reciever, and double thick welded band around reciever opening. It cost an arm and a leghttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif but to me it was well worth the costhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif. I regularly haul a race trailer that when loaded weighs in just over 10,000lbs. I believe my hitch is good for 14,000lbs with load leveling hookup.
