a quick look at summitracing.com shows the following shift kits for the 4l80e:

Transgo Performance Shift Kit (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=TRG%2D4L80E&N=115+4294920458&autoview=sku) for about $150

B&M Shift Improver kit (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=BMM%2D10024&N=115+4294920458&autoview=sku) for $32

B&M Transpak kit (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=BMM%2D10054&N=115+4294920458&autoview=sku) for $62

Is the Transgo worth paying the extra $90. A guy sure does get more pieces with the Transgo kit.

and I've never done anything with a slush box beyond spilling fluid all over the garage floor. I'm assuming a reasonably mechanical person can get this done. Right?

I believe you are going to find that the transgo is the preffered kit. And don't pay SUMMITS high price for it. You can get them off E-bay for $90.

I've been reading here about it. too bad I'm not pulling the transmission to do this. That extra 10% boost in torque would be nice. I'm looking for an afternoon install.

and I'll shop ebay, thanks for the tip.

I've heard that these shift kits can magnify the effects of torque managment. True?

If so, should a kit only be used when tuning to remove TM from the PCM.

The Transgo s/k will only affect tq management if you are slipping clutches. If you slip, tq mang. will back off fuel and timing in certain cars or trucks. Transgo will stop the slip and of course the tq manadment will be less liable to make changes.
