: Bully Dog Power Pup
ChampionTransmission 01-29-2006, 07:54 PM Lets here any and all info on it please.
I picked up my LBZ on Wed. and need more power! Look like all that is out there is the Power Pup and the Duramaximizer. Seems not to many people are thrilled on how the Duramaximizer makes its changes. I don't know anything about Diesels really so don't take that as a bash.
Am I really better off waiting until June for Banks and Edge to come out with their products>??? I don't mind getting the PP for now and switching later if it is just a matter of HP, I just don't want to do it if there are issues that will hurt my truck. I want more power and black smoke!
I also plan on doing an exhaust and something with the air intake system as well. Thanks in advance, -Mat-
Mark Craig 01-29-2006, 11:44 PM SVT F15O,
We do not sell the PPE stuff but have sold approx 45-50 Bully Dog Power Pups on the LBZ and so far it's been great. It makes way more power than the Allison can handle though so play with it smart etc. Call us at the office if you have any questions etc.
Mark @ DPPI
Horsepower Upgrades 01-29-2006, 11:45 PM You could always go with the Bully Dog now, and then later stack an van Aaken or Edge module with the Bully Dog for even more power.
So your investment isnt wasted.
Just a thought!
66flh 01-30-2006, 12:18 AM Get ready for a tranny too..
RichLockyer 01-30-2006, 01:46 AM Ditto the tranny comments.
'06 LLY I just put 350/680 to the dyno Saturday with the BD set on "Performance"... level 3 of 4, not counting the hidden 'Crazy Larry' level 5.
ChampionTransmission 01-30-2006, 09:13 AM I own a Transmission Shop so I am not too worried about playing around with the Allison. I know Transgo has something for the 5-speed. Have they done anything for the 6-speed yet>??? -Mat-
RichLockyer 01-30-2006, 12:09 PM The current valve kit will work, however, apparently only about half of the parts are used. They're working on getting a second kit out with only the parts needed by the 6 speed.
Full Suncoast to come soon.
ChampionTransmission 01-31-2006, 06:51 PM Is this speculation or fact on the Transgo kit. I called them yesterday and they said no 6-speed kit yet. I asked about the 5-speed kit going in and he said he didn't think so. I did a 5-speed unit at the shop about 2yrs ago but did not do a shift kit at the time. -Mat-
RichLockyer 01-31-2006, 10:32 PM That is what Mike L indicated when I was chatting with him last weekend.
ChampionTransmission 02-01-2006, 01:11 AM Ok, maybe I will order the kit and take a look into. If I don't like what I see I could always send it back. My parts supplier takes care of me. :)
Thanks for the info! -Mat-

'06 LLY (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/autolink.php?id=21&script=showthread&forumid=146) I just put 350/680 to the dyno (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/autolink.php?id=38&script=showthread&forumid=146) Saturday with the BD set on "Performance"... level 3 of 4, not counting the hidden 'Crazy Larry' level 5.
I'm getting a trans soon...How can I get 'Crazy Larry' level 5?
ChampionTransmission 02-01-2006, 08:42 AM Yeah, what is the "Crazy Larry" setting and how would one get it>??? -Mat-
JoshH 02-01-2006, 11:09 AM The Crazy Larry tune is only on the Triple Dog which is set to be released this month sometime by Bully Dog.
RichLockyer 02-02-2006, 10:56 PM I thought you could call BD and get some kind of unlock code/procedure for the CL program on the Pup?
JoshH 02-03-2006, 01:07 AM Maybe so Rich. I know it comes standard on the TD but not the PP.
unk577 02-03-2006, 10:16 AM Got a copy of the graph from the dyno run? What kind of dyno was it on?
LeroyR 02-03-2006, 10:16 AM Why do they call it "Crazy Larry"?
Kennedy 02-03-2006, 10:18 AM The best 06 Dmax mods are yet to come...
RichLockyer 02-03-2006, 11:54 AM Got a copy of the graph from the dyno run? What kind of dyno was it on?
Not yet.... haven't had a chance to scan it.
Peak torque was at a higher RPM than I expected: 350 @ 3050 / 679.9 @ 2300
Mustang dyno.
torozmaster 02-03-2006, 08:35 PM Kennedy- I cant for the life of me figure out why you crap every thread that has anything to do with Bully Dog- I have use BD products, everyone I know has BD. Not to mention they are the only guys with a product on the market. So until the "best decide to come," Leave BD alone. You have wasted everyones time in this tread.
They call it "Crazy Larry" because of a guy called Larry Olsen of Burley ID. He has a comment written on the side of page 20 in the Bully Dog catalog.
Hella amounts of power. Extremely modified trannys only.
2006sierra 02-03-2006, 09:44 PM I believe the "crazy larry" program is supposed to give an additional 230 hp (not sure about the torque).
So far the bully dog has been very good to me. I will probably buy the edge when it comes out so I can compare. I also would really like to shift on the fly.:ro)

BD is not a supporting vendor here on DP, and instead has supposedly been caught using shills on more than one occasion.
That has a tendency to upset both the admin and true supporting vendors, so I can understand a little crap being thrown around.... it's been a sore subject for a while.
Plus the fact that the BD trans kit is worthless... they are not 1000% what everyone claims they are. The tuner works, and seems to work well.
swayse 02-04-2006, 09:23 AM I had real bad luck with an early Bully Dog box on a 03 Dodge. But they had a 30 day return thing if you weren't satisfied, no biggy.

Sorry, I'm just applying simple logic based on history of the Dmax. Please answer these questions for me and maybe you will understand:
1) Who made the first commercialy available LB7 mod, and how long was it on the market? Is it even remotely in use by anybody today?
2) How long did it take the LB7 mods to TRULY come to maturity? The 04-05 LLY mods still have a LOT of room to improve.
3) How many LLY tuners tune boost?
4) How many first round home runs have been hit with ANY series of Dmax mods?
5) How many vendors continue to improve/evolve their LLY tuning, and how many have simply moved on calling their early releases good enough?
I'm using the "Rome wasn't built in a day" logic here pure and simple. Yes the tuner mfrs are learning as the Dmax evolves and their first round releases are better, but NOT home runs. Unfortunately when I speak the truth about issues like this (and Hypertech) someone always gets bent out of shape.
I'm sorry, but I'm not a "yes man" who comes with his hand out whenver someone is looking to spend money...
I have access to the most all of the same products that others push, but prefer to stick with the stuff that I like and use on my own vehicles so that I can provide insight from REAL first hand experience, not just: "We sold dozens to date and the customers say"...
torozmaster 02-05-2006, 09:07 PM Well, I would say this- I am a power junky. So if it will take 6 months from when I buy a truck and the tuner comes out, Ill take and try something that will hold my time. It should be said that EVERYTHING is flawed. SO unless you have used the product and its had a problem on your truck- for the 06s. You really have no room to talk. I have, it works great, so as a user I have to say that the BD power pup is a good product.

2006 Chevy 2500HD Ext Cab LLY Duramax W/ Allison 6 Speed 4x4 LT2. Bully Dog Power Pup w/ Performance tune.
I have an extra BD power Pup, contact me.
Now see your opinion is biased because you are trying to sell something. One could easily say the same about me, but I try to keep an open mind which many here can vouch for. I too have a BULLY DOG Power Pup available for sale, but I'm not pushing it...
Using the initials BD for Bully Dog will only confuse people. BD is BD Brake in Canada, and Bully Dog is a different company that came along well after BD was formed.
torozmaster 02-07-2006, 02:07 AM well since you are being so anal- there is also BD diesel. Which is a different company as well. I have sold my BULLY DOG power pup. You keep an open mind??????????????????????????????????????????
EVERY post about BULLY DOG, you crap in. So thats really open to me.
Enough of this. You will never admit your wrong, so enough.

i wish more people that sale products look at it the way you do and if more people were out like you a lot of the lesser products would not make it on the market IMO
