Called you back on that, Eric. Again, sorry for not coming out yesterday.

Besides the PAC SWI-X for the steering wheel controls, you'll need a PAC OS-2BOSE for the amp hookup and PAC CM1 for chimes.

Ben will "chime" in and correct me if I'm wrong.....

no it wont work at all. The airbags will deploy and the truck will chime 24/7 and after which the wheels will fall off. ):h

I still have that TNR sittign around gathering dust Eric!!! You know you wanna go OEM... :D

Would that be a LUX or NON?

DURAtotheMAX

its a LUX

TheBac

Ben, he would have been better off getting a touchscreen from you, and having Dan reprogram it to non-LUX.

DURAtotheMAX

I know! I told Eric that

After he buys the AVIC, PAC adapters etc. it will be much more expensive

TheBac
01-29-2006, 08:43 PM
i told him that a long time ago...but did he listen? Nope.

He's looking at over $200 in adapters...and the sound won't be very good to boot.

And also, to make that PAC SWIX work you have to mount an IR emitter somewhere so it points at the front of the radio... I dont know where you'd mount it on our trucks? My frined has a Jeep Grand Cherokee which has a much taller center console so we could mount the IR emitter there and point it at the radio. BUT...it wont work in Park or reverse cause the shifter is in the way of the beam, and if you have stuff in the center console it doesnt work etc...not to mention you have to run wires and its kinda a pain to program the SWI-X and tap in the wires in the steering column. Eric told me he didnt want to do any wire splicing or cutting...theres none with the Escalade TNR. Except running a VSS wire because his truck is a 2003....

TheBac
01-29-2006, 09:02 PM
Heck..running that VSS wire is cake. And I haven't even installed a NAV yet....

Wow....a thread where I get on Eric's case. Sorry, pal....

Tom you should get a nav unit and then you can install it over at Eric's. Both you guys start installing your nav units at the same time. Free beer to the guy who finishes first):h

Yup, the plug and play would have been much easier, but I started getting the stereo bug and my truck wont have Bose much after the FL trip...

DURAtotheMAX
01-29-2006, 09:17 PM
but Eric!! You can hook up aftermarket amps/speakers to the TNR too...

Thats not a fair fight unless I can borrow your tech2.

I told him he'd have to gut the Bose system and start over. But I'd be more than willing to help. Maybe put the labor on account for future stuff?

btw Eric so does this mean I still have a tab build up with you? You have the CC on file..

DURAtotheMAX

No, but it interfaces with the Pioneer XM Nav-Traffic box to display freeway speed colors and closure information in real-time on the map.

Worthless in the sticks... indispensable in LA :)

Yup. I totalled about $2500 at Circuit City (with them doing the installs) for the AVIC-D1, XM-Nav, and the three adapters needed for the Bose, OnStar, and Steering wheel controls.

Even still, my door chime no longer works (yay!), the "Program" and "Source-Down" buttons on the steering wheel don't work, and Onstar, while it will activate from the steering wheel, will not "say" anything when the key is turned off (ie, H/U display dark).
The stereo doesn't have to be ON, but the key must be in ACC or on before OnStar will sound through the speakers.

I'd say I'm 90% happy with the system.

"Source-Down" would be nice to have. If I have a CD in, now I have to cycle through AM, XM, CD. With source-down I could cycle AM-XM-AM. Source-up does not select FM... I have to do that from the audio menu on the touch screen.

The OnStar issue doesn't bother me.

Thats my job. Just tell me when.

TNR will make that Premium Bose amp sound a hell of a lot better right off the bat. PLUS, Eric could use one of his in-stock GM XM recievers and it would be a seamless install.

Eric....buy the unit from Ben. Have him ship it Next Day. I could be out Wednesday after work to install it.....will take maybe an hour...

Think...no wiring hassles, no chime hassles, no hassles period...plus you can upgrade it later for a lot cheaper.

word on the street is(I.E. internet) Pioneer is coming out with a new Double din that has the traffic thing built in and it will learn your favorite routes as you drive them and let you know when there is a problem(accident,construction,leperichans)...

Only GM nav I ever played with is my bosses in an 05 vette, Is this one anything like that?

DURAtotheMAX

Jazman
01-31-2006, 10:42 AM
NO, its a new one likle the AVIC-Dz2 or somethin.

I will see if I can find the name

RichLockyer
01-31-2006, 09:36 PM
Ya.... AVIC-D1 doesn't learn your preferred routes and XM-Nav/Traffic is an add-on module.
