: Fluids???
06 lbz 01-28-2006, 09:52 PM O.K. this is probably in the wrong spot but here go`s anyway.
I`m almost at 1000 mi. on my lbz and i`m gettin` ready for fluid changes.
I`m installing the amsoil bypass filter as well as amsoil in the engine and switching to Transynd in the tranny.
Here`s my question. What should i be using in my transfer case and front and rear diffs. for fluids???
Thanks as always for the help.:ro)

Use synthetics in your diffs and transfer case especailly if the truck will see cold weather. I know the rear diff is 75W-90 the front too i think but not sure. I just used ac delco synthetics but you can use anything thats got the right specs.
killerbee 01-29-2006, 08:54 AM I would think twice before doing your amsoil bypass project. Maybe read a little about some of the realities.
From what I can see, there will be less filtration, due to added restriction. Specifically, check the remote line size ID.

Killer do you have the flow requirements for the LBZ if so please post
06 lbz 01-29-2006, 10:38 AM Killer,
So what`s the fix??? could i just increase the line size to and from the remote filter mount?? Or does it just need to be increased to the filter only???

looks to be a simple mod to get everything on the amsoil bypass up to 3/4 pipe and dash 12 fittings this would bring the nominal id to .63 on hose and .5 on pipe. the spin on adapter already has a 3/4 pipe in it the only thing that would need drilled and rethreaded is the dual filter mount which already has .55 passages.
these size hoses and fittings look to give no pressure drop at aprox 3gpm and at 8gpm there is only a 3.8 psi drop. still can't find any flow spec on lly lbz oil system all i have to go off is the size of the outlet on the oil filter.

Which transfer case do you have? If you have the manual transfer case, I believe it uses ATF. If so, you can upgrade it to Mobil 1 synthetic ATF for under $20. If you have the push button transfer case I think you have to use GM Autotrak fluid that is only available through the dealer.
RichLockyer 01-29-2006, 02:22 PM Don't put Transynd in the '06!
It comes with Dexron-VI.... using Transynd or any other Dex-III product will void your GM warranty.
Dex-VI is already synthetic. Just change your spin-on at 5k (don't lose the magnet, clean it and put it on the new filter) and make sure the new filter is filled and soaked with Dex-VI.
By the time you have 25k on it, we should have some positive word on whether or not Transynd is okay on the 6 speeds.
In theory, it SHOULD be okay... the clutch and seal material is unchanged, but GM's promotion of Dex-VI touts extended service intervals AND greater holding power. Of course, it's much better than Dex-III, but keep in mind that your LBZ has a significant power gain over the LLY, and the #3 clutch pack has not been upgraded to handle it.

I have searched high and low, begged and pleaded with GM, and 20 gpm is what you should plan for if wanting to "optomize". I have found no written documents I can link. The reality is that 20 gpm is very difficult to manage in commonly available plumbing. -16 would be very safe, but somewhat impractable. For my purposes, I want under 10 psi drop at 15 gpm, that's combined between all connections, the new cooler, and lines. This is near impossible to do without -16 lines, but you can get very close with -12 (.64" id). Keep all connections no less than .6" id, and look closely at the interface at the motor. This is normally a high loss area. The remote adapter commonly sold in these kits, is the worst restriction. Close examination reveals it. Some of these are ported for 3/8" npt fittings, and outfitted with -8 or -10 lines. Further, if you look at the backside of the adapter, you may see the outer port is severely restricted even further with area reduction and a 90 bend.
RichLockyer 01-29-2006, 02:27 PM If you have the push button transfer case I think you have to use GM Autotrak fluid that is only available through the dealer.
Only the 1500 and SUVs have Autotrak. All 2500 and 3500 trucks currently have pushbutton controls for the transfer case, but it's just controlling a stepper motor that switches the case.
Front and rear diff - Mobil-1 75w90, 6 quarts total (4 rear, 2 front)
Transger case - Mobil-1 Dex-III ATF, 2 quarts
Engine oil - 10 quarts, take your pick. Some are shy about 5w synthetics. Amsoil makes a 15w40 synthetic.
Transmission - Dexron-VI. Something like 12 quarts on a pan drain and refill, 5 gallons for a complete flush. Allison recommends only a pan drain and refill every 25k with regular changes of the spin-on filter.
06 lbz 01-29-2006, 02:42 PM OK Rich i`ll hold off on the transynd till i get a confirmation.
Thanks .
RichLockyer 01-29-2006, 02:45 PM BTW: Did you make it to the dyno day up there in the Bay Area yesterday?
I put my '06 LLY on the rollers and made 350/680 with the BullyDog on Performance.
Curious how your LBZ compares. We had a stock LBZ at 297 and an LLY with an AFE and cat-back make 270.
06 lbz 01-29-2006, 02:50 PM No i was supposed to go pheasant huntin` but the weather put a stop to that and i didn`t find about the dyno until last night..........too late.
