My 4wd vibrates on the highway bad. When I engage the 4wd there is a MAJOR clunk sound. I have had several other 4wd's with none of these problems. The dealer wants to replace the whole front assembly. Should I let them, I don't have much faith in their service department. Is it a major undertaking? Anybody around metro-Detroit area know of a good dealer with 4wd experience?

Do you get the clunk only when going into 4LO? If so that is a normal clunk. They must have ruled out the drive shaft causing the vibration already. The front axle is really easy to remove, not much for them to mess up unless they leave fasteners loose.

The clunk happens from 2wd to 4wd. It's really bad if you maintain throttle position, but still clunks even if I let off the pedal all the way. My other 4wd's never made this sound, just worry about the dealer making it worse.

Cajun, I have seen some syncro problems in the t-case. I suspect that what ever the problem is in the front if there is,. it can be repaired. But, if they wanna put in an assembly, thats better then having some peoples hands in it

dmaxalliTech,
I guess so, I would of rather had you work on it. Last week the cause was a electrical problem and would not have to split anything. Now this week they are talking about replacing the assembly. If I knew that before I took it back in, I would have made the road trip to GR. Still might who knows.
