<DIV>I let the oil drain from the drain plug until it stopped dripping. Changed the filter and added 9 1/2 qts. Warmed the engine to normal operating temperature and checked the oil after 10 minutes. It shows higher than the full mark. Should I only put in enough oil to keep the level between the full and add mark or put in 10 qts and drive it?</DIV>

I don't think the standard dipstick works that well except to indicate that there is in fact oil in the pan. I read somewhere about a method of drilling some holes (not through) in the piece at the end of the dipstick in order to get a more accurate reading of the true oil level. Does anyone have any picts of this? I would like to know the best size drill to use. How about someone put together a "how to" article on this. I think the mod is pretty simple. I just don't recall where I read about it.

I did it a couple of years ago. I used a 1/8" bit. Photos are in my "PICS" link under "dipstick tricks."
