Long time lurker...first post.

I am installing lighted Westin running boards on my '03 D/A CC LB. Takes me a long time but am done except for the electrical connection.

Directions say highly recommend professional for wiring. I don't really want to do that. I have the harness into the passenger compartment.

I need for some one to tell me how to find the dome light wire, or a better connection point. The idea is for the RB lights to come on and go off when the dome light does. And what type of a connector to use. Does it need to be soldered (sp?)? There are two wires in the harness, I presume (dangerous) that one is ground and the other hot.

TIA,

Richard

I may be wrong about this, so take that into consideration firsthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif, but I believe the dome light is a constant hot with a switched ground, so thats something to consider when making your connections.

For my alarm hookup, I pulled a signal off the switch. I used the signal to drive a relay which has constant power. You don't want to add those lights to the existing circuit IMO. A relay is pretty cheap and a line from the alternator post. Of course you will need to use a volt meter to insure the line from the switch is hot when your dome is on, but as I recall, it is.

I have power mirrors. I don't know what puddle lights are. The only lights in the mirrors are the turn signals.

You are absolutely right, the door buttons that turn on the dome light is a ground.

You will need to tie your ground wire from your running board lights to the ground for the dome lights.

Make sure that the lights in your running boards are not grounded through the mounting brackets.

Yup...I don't have puddle lights.

Thanks

Ok...I need more detail....where is the ground for the dome light and how do I identify it? What do I tie the hot to and how do I identify it?

What kind of a connector do I use for the tie in?

I know this is awfully basic...but I don't know.

Thanks
