Just about time for new rubber. Currently have 265/75 16, was going to go to 285/75 16, however I don't want to hurt my MPG to much. I had 255/85 16 on my '89 suburban 3/4t and they were good on and off road. Got about 14-16mpg in the Sub with a 350TBI and turbo 400 (no OD)...
Just wondering if anyone is running them on this vintage?

There are a few brands that do offer the 255/85R16. Fortunately, they look like respectable brands!

I had the Dunlops on my Sub they are D rated. I find my current E rated (10 ply) tires far too rough for everyday use.

When I put D-rated Dunlops on my truck, I dropped 1.5 mpg right off the bat.

285/75/R16 BFG A/T on the Blazer, avg about 18.5 mpg in town and 19.5 highway. I got between 50-60,000 mile per set, and I think there D rated. 1 reason I run those is where I hunt there is ALOT of catus that sometimes you have no choice but to drive though it. Out of the 3 sets of BFG A/T not 1 flat from the catus. Just my 0.02

I ran bfg mud ta's for a while.255/85/r16 I think one seperated..I was pretty hard on them though.
Going from stock 265/75R16 BFG long trails to 32/11.50R15 Swamper SSR's to 295/75R16's BFG/ AT's I noticed no significant MPG changes. Not on this truck but I have had BFG Mud's seperate as well, durring low pressure four wheeling abuse
